This combination of clinical practice and research activities provides a unique setting which is particularly beneficial to patients with complex contact lens problems, keratoconus and dry eye. The research, often conducted in collaboration with other academic and health care disciplines, has resulted in over 100 professional publications, 40 patents, and many eye care products used throughout the world. Examples include the original “membrane” soft contact lens which has served as the design model for all contemporary soft contact lenses, the DET™ test for dry eye, and the design concept for fitting contact lenses for keratoconus. Our research also resulted in 2 consumer products: Soothe XP™ by Bausch and Lomb and Systane Balance™ by Alcon. These are the only marketed solutions for the most common form of dry eye: evaporative lipid dry eye. Specialized diagnostic techniques, many of which have been invented by Korb & Associates, aid in the diagnosis of dry eye, contact lens discomfort, and contact lens vision problems.
