JANUARY WORKSHOP ALERT ‼️

Leading into the New Year we have a really exciting lineup of workshops with BYU faculty and Guest Teachers!

First up, Emily Peterson

Join Emily Peterson for a special two-hour workshop weaving Yin Yoga, somatic opening, micro-dose breathwork, and guided manifestation questions. This experience blends the soft, cooling waters of Yin with the activating spark of breath and intention—an alchemical dance between fire and ice, Yin and Yang, rest and ignition.

A long time friend to the BYU Community David Vendetti

Step into the new year with intention and ease. Starting with a slow-flow vinyasa class that offers a grounding, conscious, and deeply connected experience designed to build a strong foundation from the inside out. Move with freedom as you align your physical and energetic body, cultivate core strength, and explore postures with mindful attention and presence.

Session 2 is a deep tissue massage that will educate practitioners on self care, break through to new levels of flexibility, and brighten and invigorate the soul!

Last but not least J Brown

This workshop takes us deep into the practice and philosophy behind J. Brown’s slow and strong, powerfully intimate, breath-centered therapeutic yoga teaching. Inspired by the T Krishnamacharya (“the teacher of teachers”) and TKV Desikachar tradition, J has codified 20+ years of teaching experience into a singularly healing yoga practice that adapts to individual needs.

This is J’s signature offering that he has given to thousands of teachers and students around the world. His approach emphasizes breath before poses, simplicity and attention over striving and achievement, and is geared towards reducing stress and a lessening of pain.

We hope to see you on the mat for these incredibly enriching offerings!

Happy New Year, friends.
As we step into 2026, I’ve been thinking about what actually happens on our mats. We show up, we get sweaty, we wobble, we hold still when everything in us wants to move. We show up and get still, and soften when everything in us tells us to keep our armor on. We take support—from the props and from each other—when everything in us says “I can do it myself.” We test our edges.
And in all of that, we’re not trying to fix ourselves or become someone better—we’re just clearing away the noise so we can see what’s already there. Yoga isn’t an improvement practice. It’s a tool to reveal what’s already perfect.
The resilience we build here—the kind that helps us be more ourselves—is the real work. And you’ve been doing it. Through every class, every breath, every moment you chose to show up, especially on the days it was hard.
I’m grateful to share this practice with you. We truly have the best teachers in Boston, and the communities that gather here—morning crew, evening warriors, weekend regulars—are thriving because of you. Your presence, your energy, your willingness to keep it real on and off the mat makes this place what it is.
Here’s to another year of getting sweaty, getting still, and being even more vibrantly ourselves.
With gratitude,

Tim & BYU Team

Join Born, Cass, and Trish for a Flow & Restore experience designed to help you reconnect with your body, your breath, and your inner rhythm as we honor the closing of the year. You’ll be guided to move with intention, slow down with care, and create space for emotional, physical, and energetic integration. The evening will close with a nourishing sound bath to support deeper rest, grounding, and ease.

Crafted specifically for BIPOC students of all levels, this gathering offers a space of softness, connection, and community care. Come as you are, and allow yourself to settle, restore, and transition with clarity and intention.

Join for her last Union workshop of 2025!

Close to the eve of winter’s longest night, we gather to honor the quiet power of the dark and the light it makes possible. In this final session, we move through a restorative arc of yin and meditation, culminating in a collective healing transmission. As we root into the body, we reclaim joy, clarity, and the presence that lives beyond thought. Sovereignty begins within - in the still point, in the breath, in the choice to come home.

The next installment of the Sovereignty in Stillness Series with Emily is this coming Friday at Back Bay from 6:00-7:30pm

A note from Emily:
These classes are close to my heart—born from years of working with the nervous system, the waters of the body, and the wisdom of presence. Yin Yoga has been a profound part of my own healing path—teaching me how to listen more deeply, soften what’s armored, and remember wisdom within.

In a world that can feel overwhelming, chaotic, and fast-moving, I’ve found that stillness is not the absence of life—but a way to return to it. A reclamation. Through long-held postures, breath, and presence, Yin Yoga invites us to stay, to soften into the body’s wisdom and meet ourselves with compassion.

Join Izzy VanHall and the Namastay team for a heart-opening yoga practice that celebrates connection, community, and healthy living. This all-levels class is about coming together to move our bodies, breathe deeply, and support one another on the path to wellness.
As we flow together, we’ll raise funds to help others build a healthier lifestyle through the Namastay Sober program. Come for the movement, stay for the meaning, and leave feeling grounded, inspired, and part of something bigger.
All are welcome—no experience needed, just an open heart and willingness to connect.

From being a cofounder of the original BYU through her unwavering support of our new current studios, Emily has been a vital part of our studio community.

Practice and life move in unexpected directions sometimes, and after a solid 7 years of dedicated teaching, Emily has decided to step away from teaching public classes.

To say that she will be missed is an understatement, but we can all take another teaching from her- When in the quiet space of practice, new paths are revealed, be unafraid of change.

We know that big changes can be challenging, so please feel free to reach out to us and to her if you have questions or need to connect.

We love you Em

Tim and the team

Emily’s last class will be the 14th. Come practice with her in the coming weeks!

Welcome Home

Opened in February 2019,and winner of Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston - Best Yoga Studio, Boston Yoga Union is Boston’s ‘newest old-school yoga studio.’ From the poses, the philosophy, the hard work; to the mystical, the playlist, the sweat AND the surrender: we genuinely love it all.

Our teachers first and foremost consider themselves students; and our collective experience shows us that regular practice of yoga is vital to physical health, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual connectedness.

With three beautiful spaces, a diverse menu of class styles and levels, we welcome all humans to practice with us.
