He served just four intense years in law enforcement, witnessing tragedies most never see—life-and-death calls, horrific accidents, and moments when shots rang out from three yards away. Every shift carried one silent vow: “Make it home.”

After that near-miss, he returned, lifted his sleeping son, and wept—knowing how close he’d come to never walking through the door again. Growing up without his own father, he refuses to let that be his son’s story. Whatever it takes, he’s making it home.

To every dad in law enforcement, the military, or any high-risk field: your courage is undeniable, but your presence at home is priceless. Stay sharp, stay safe, and keep making it back to your people. We see you, respect you, and stand with you.

Ever wonder why we host a Grill-Off? Sure, it’s a day of fun but it’s rooted in our mission. “This Dad Cares” isn’t just an event name, it’s a statement: it’s changing the narrative about fathers.

Too often, dads (especially Black and brown dads) are portrayed as absent or disengaged. We’re here to highlight the truth: fathers DO care – deeply – and given support, they will move mountains for their kids. The Grill-Off is our bold, joyful way to showcase fatherly love in action and to bring families together. It’s also a chance for the community to see fathers leading positive change.

As we chow down on BBQ and play games on Aug 16, remember: every laugh and every hug that day is subtly breaking stereotypes and healing hearts. This is why we do what we do at Fathers’ UpLift – because when dads heal, families heal. And that’s something to celebrate.

Join the movement – come to the Grill-Off and show the world that dads care.

Did you know? When fathers are actively involved, children are more likely to thrive. Research shows that having an engaged dad is linked to better academic performance and lower rates of drug use, crime, and behavioral issues. That’s the power of a present father! Every time you read a bedtime story, coach a soccer game, or simply show up consistently, you’re reducing the chances your child will face those struggles.

We call it the “Dad Effect.” 💡 It’s why everything we do at Fathers’ UpLift centers on helping dads be there for their kids. When fathers rise, families shine. So to all the dads out there grinding every day to be the best father they can be – keep it up. You are literally changing the future for the better, one hug and homework help at a time.

Spread the word – share this fact and tag a father who’s making a difference.

Addiction thrives in isolation; recovery thrives in community. 💜

As we prepare for Overdose Awareness Day, let’s talk about supporting those on the path to recovery. Every father or mother fighting substance use needs to know: you are not alone, and your life matters. At our upcoming event, we won’t just mourn those lost we’ll celebrate those living in recovery, whether it’s 1 day or 10 years sober.

One attendee from last year shared, “Being here showed me I’m not alone in this fight. We’re stronger together.” That’s the power of community. If you have a loved one in recovery, take a moment today to tell them you’re proud. If you are in recovery, we see you and we applaud every step you take. Together, we can replace shame with hope. Stronger together, one day at a time.

Show support – comment with a 💜 to honor someone fighting addiction or in recovery.

Mentor Spotlight: Meet Angelina V., one of our star USTR Fellowship mentors!

Angelina is a licensed clinician who has been mentoring with Fathers’ UpLift for 2 years. Why does she do it? “I remember my own early career struggles,” she says. “Having a mentor would’ve changed everything for me, so I vowed to be that guide for others.” Angelina’s dedication even led to her being invited as a keynote speaker for our 2024 Fellowship graduation, in honor of how much she gave to her mentees She calls the experience “a two-way street I learn from the students as much as they learn from me.” Her story shows how mentors not only shape futures, but also find renewed purpose in their own careers.

Thank you, Angelina, and all our mentors, for helping our fellows (and young fathers in the making) thrive!

It’s time to talk about a tough issue: the overdose epidemic.

In 2022, over 107,000 Americans lost their lives to drug overdose, and though 2023 saw a slight dip (105,000 deaths), the number is still devastating. Each statistic is a parent, child, or friend gone too soon. Fathers’ UpLift is committed to breaking the silence and stigma around addiction. We know many fathers and families struggle with substance use, often in isolation.

This month, we’ll be sharing facts, resources, and stories leading up to Overdose Awareness Day (Aug 29).

Knowledge is power: when we understand the crisis, we can support each other and save lives. No one has to fight alone.
