Graduate Association for Food Studies

Graduate Association for Food Studies The graduate student caucus for the Association of the Study of Food and Society. (ASFS) Want to write your first book review but aren’t sure how it works?

Graduate Association for Food Studies
Publishing and presenting are two fundamental skills, yet as graduate students we rarely get guidance in acquiring them. Never submitted a paper for peer review but know you need to learn how? Join the Graduate Association for Food Studies and get advice and help from other graduate students interested in food studies scholarship. You can also be a peer reviewer and share your knowledge, as well present at the annual conference. Build your CV as well as your knowledge of the pragmatics of publishing–and meet other grad students interested in food studies, from all over the world. The Graduate Association for Food Studies (GAFS) is an interdisciplinary academic community founded in the spring of 2014 with the goals of connecting graduate students who are interested in food and promoting their exceptional work. The Association publishes the Graduate Journal of Food Studies. In 2015, The Association held its first annual Future of Food Studies conference for graduate students to present and discuss their research. The next conference will take place in fall 2017. Graduate Journal of Food Studies
The Graduate Journal of Food Studies is an international student-run and refereed journal dedicated to encouraging and promoting interdisciplinary food scholarship at the graduate level. Published bi-yearly in digital form, the journal is a space for promising scholars to showcase their exceptional academic research. The Journal hopes to foster dialogue and engender debate among students across the academic community. It features food-centric articles from diverse disciplines including, but not limited to: anthropology, history, sociology, cultural studies, gender studies, economics, art, politics, pedagogy, nutrition, philosophy, and religion.

The Graduate Association for Food Studies is thrilled to announce Food Studies (In)Digestion, a series of conversations for graduate students to search for, critique, expand, and understand our orientations to the food studies canon. Each part of this series serves as an opportunity to generate discussion about the field of food studies through its commonly read texts—and to reflect on how those texts provoke or prevent growth in the field.

Our first session "The Food Studies Dilemma: Searching for the Food Studies Canon" is on October 1st, at 1:30 EST. Register here: https://bit.ly/3c6fqgO
