Boston Medical Center, a proud member of the Boston Medical Center Health System, models a new kind of excellence in healthcare, where innovative and equitable care empowers all patients to thrive. We combine world-class clinicians and cutting-edge treatments with compassionate, quality care that extends beyond our walls. Together, we're reimagining healthcare for Boston—and the world. As an award-winning health equity leader, our diverse clinicians and staff interrogate racial disparities in care and partner with our community to dismantle systemic inequities. This commitment to equity is the basis of all our work, particularly as 70 percent of our patients are people of color. Nearly 30 percent of our patients speak a primary language other than English, and we offer all our care and services in over 160 languages, including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, and more. As an academic medical center, BMC is building the future of healthcare. Our world-renowned researchers currently oversee over 660 research projects in a wide variety of areas, and as the principal teaching affiliate of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, BMC is devoted to training future generations of healthcare professionals. BMC's clinical expertise, commitment to equity, quality, and sustainability efforts have been consistently recognized by organizations across the country, including the federal government, American Nurses Credentialing Center (Magnet designation), U.S. News, Leapfrog, Human Rights Campaign, the Lown Institute, Becker’s Healthcare, and more. Earlier this month, BMC sponsored an in-person Black Health Space restorative gathering at Twelfth Baptist Church.

The event, hosted by Health Your Love Period during Black History Month, centered on guided breathwork, sound healing, and therapeutic activities designed to support emotional and spiritual well-being, led by a board-certified chaplain and other trained facilitators.

The participants, who included several BMC patients and staff, were encouraged to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves and one another in the welcoming space.

Last week, The Teaching Kitchen and the DEI Nursing Council teamed up to celebrate Black History Month through food, with guest instructor and nurse Nneka Nwokeji. Nneka demonstrated Nigerian Jollof Rice, a savory rice cooked in homemade sauce and stock, served alongside braised fowl and a light salad.

Jollof rice traces its roots to the Wolof people of the Senegambian region, in present-day Senegal and Gambia, dating back to the historic Wolof Empire. Over time, trade, migration, and shared history carried the dish across West Africa, where each country added its own flavors, spices, and techniques.

Menopause is the cessation of ovarian function, formally diagnosed when the menstrual cycle has stopped for 12 consecutive months. While 55% of women aged 18 and older identify as being in some phase of menopause, treatment options remain sparse.

At BMC, providers are collaborating across specialties to treat the effects of menopause as a way to offer meaningful relief and clearer path forward. Read more on : https://bit.ly/4s66VZ2

Join 120+ fellow BMC champions for The Winter Walk on Sunday, March 22. This 2-mile walk around Boston Common raises critical funds for Living Well at Home, BMC’s initiative to help patients find and maintain safe housing. Register now: https://bit.ly/4qLNpA2

We walk for patients like Calvin. Struggling to find a stable home made it hard for Calvin to keep up with his medication and appointments. With help from Living Well at Home, he now has a safe place to live. “The housing team is extremely helpful and a great resource. I now live in a nice neighborhood, and I’m more consistent with my medication thanks to their help,” Calvin shared.

Support this critical work by walking or donating. Thanks to the generosity of Diane and Gary Glick and the Glick Family, every dollar we raise in support of Living Well at Home becomes two, up to $55,000!

After learning our favorite QB’s pre-game meal is a classic peanut butter and jelly, we asked BMC’s Teaching Kitchen manager, Gaby Simons, to weigh in on the nutritional benefits of this lunchbox MVP.

When Marci Sutkowski lost her grandson, she took on two personas: a grandmother drowning in her own grief, and a mother watching her son endure a level of suffering no parent should ever know.

She found a path forward through the Massachusetts Center for Unexpected Infant and Child Death (MCUICD) housed at Boston Medical Center, which not only supports families after sudden infant and child loss, but also trains professionals to better care for families like hers.

As rates of sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) rise in the US, the Center is exploring how to expand its unique model of advocacy, bereavement care, and professional training. Learn more on : https://bit.ly/3M6MsUB
