Liver disease affects millions of people globally, yet too often, care is measured through clinical indicators alone rather than the outcomes that matter most to patients.

ICHOM’s Liver Disease Working Group is closing its global validation surveys soon, and we don’t want to miss your perspective.

Whether you are living with liver disease or work professionally in liver care, your feedback will help shape which outcomes should guide future treatment and care, from symptoms and daily functioning to quality of life.

Developed alongside clinicians, researchers, and patient representatives, these surveys aim to ensure liver disease care reflects what matters beyond the lab results.

Saudi Arabia is redefining the role of the insurer 💡

As an ICHOM Transformation Partner, Tawuniya - التعاونية للتأمين is building a primary healthcare network across the Kingdom, with Meena clinics subsidiary at its core, not as a cost-control measure, but as a clinical strategy.

At the foundation of Tawuniya's Integrated Care Model sits team-based, primary care gatekeeping, handling 85% of population needs through a network spanning home care, digital care, and PHC centers. From there, care flows through secondary and tertiary levels, connected by a Cloud Patient Profile ensuring continuity across every touchpoint.

This is population health management in practice, using primary care as the engine for:

• Early risk identification and intervention
• Integrated chronic disease pathways
• Digitally enabled, data-driven care coordination
• Sustainable, outcome-focused healthcare delivery

Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and value-based care principles, Tawuniya's approach reflects a broader shift in how payers contribute to health system transformation, moving beyond financing to become active partners in care delivery.

We are delighted to continue this partnership with Tawuniya, who are helping shape the future of value-based healthcare through integrated, outcome-focused care models.

Published in NEJM Catalyst, a four-year study led by Katz et al. found that unmasked peer benchmarking using the ICHOM cataract Set of Patient-Centered Outcome Measures improved patient outcomes by 22% and reduced low-value procedures by 34%.

Among 24 cataract surgeons treating 2,600 patients, significantly more revised their surgical indications when benchmarking was introduced.

The findings show how transparent outcomes measurement can drive meaningful clinical change and support sustainable, value-based healthcare improvement across care teams.

You may be closer to ICHOM Level 1 Accreditation than you think ✔️

Many organizations assume they need to fully implement an ICHOM Set before they can qualify. In practice, this is often not the case.

Across healthcare, we’re seeing teams already delivering outcomes-focused care in specific areas. They’re collecting PROMs, tracking clinical outcomes, and capturing case-mix data, but holding back because they believe they don’t meet the criteria.

When assessed against Level 1 requirements, many already have the core elements in place.
Level 1 Accreditation is designed to recognize a structured and credible approach to outcomes measurement, even where implementation is still evolving.

If that sounds familiar, it’s worth taking a closer look.

🔍 You can explore the ICHOM Accreditation Directory to see the organizations already leading the way and how they approached their journey: https://www.ichom.org/accreditation-directory/

Voice of the Patient, an ICHOM Knowledge Partner, highlights how patient-reported measures can strengthen primary healthcare by bringing the patient perspective alongside clinical outcomes and cost data.

Their latest article explores how listening to patients supports more holistic, patient-centered care and helps drive progress toward value-based healthcare.

By measuring what matters most to patients, healthcare systems can improve quality, decision-making, and long-term outcomes across primary care.

Liver disease affects millions of people worldwide and is responsible for around 2 million deaths each year. Despite this, many health systems still focus on measuring processes of care rather than the outcomes that matter most to patients.

This creates a gap in how care is understood and improved.

ICHOM is developing a new Liver Disease Set to define a standardized set of outcomes for treatment and care. This includes clinical outcomes as well as symptoms, daily impact and quality of life.

To ensure these outcomes reflect what matters most, we are inviting people with lived experience of liver disease based in the UK, US, New Zealand and Malaysia to review and validate the proposed Set.

Your input will help shape how outcomes are measured and used to improve care globally.

Digital health adoption is accelerating, but proving real impact on patient outcomes and linking that to reimbursement remains a challenge.

Join ICHOM and the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) for a practical discussion on how performance-based contracts can better connect digital health to outcomes that matter.

Hear from Jennifer Bright, Zofia Das Gupta, Gabriela Prada, Meg Barron, and Jessica Jackson as they unpack the gap between adoption and impact, and what needs to change to make these models work in practice.

If you work in digital health, policy, or value-based care, this session focuses on what’s actually being implemented, not just discussed.
