Hearth, Inc. - ending elder homelessness

Hearth is dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. We house, prevent, and/or stabilize housing for individuals over 50.

We manage 228 units of permanent supportive housing and an Outreach program, which helps over 250 elders each year to find and succeed in housing of their own. Recently we partnered with the Corporation for Supportive Housing to create a National Initiative to End Elder Homelessness.

A home isn't a home without a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

We extend our sincere thanks to the S.W.A.N. Society for their recent, generous grant. Their gift provided new mattresses across our facilities for senior women, as well as support for Hearth's Outreach Prevention efforts.

Helping Senior Women At Need, the S.W.A.N. Society in Boston distributes funds to elderly, single women living in or around Boston in need of financial assistance with the goal of helping women live independently with dignity. Thank you, S.W.A.N. Society, for your dedicated partnership in Hearth's critical work!

Congratulations to Dr. Howard K. Koh, recipient of the 2025 Anna Bissonnette Award! Dr. Koh is the inaugural Chair of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Initiative on Health and Homelessness. We are grateful for his unwavering service to our community, which has helped countless older adults across the Commonwealth.

The Hearth Annual Inspire Action Gala was a most memorable evening filled with connections, shared history, and a united focus on a more stable, dignified future for our residents and clients. Together, we raised more than $200,000 for older adults facing homelessness in Massachusetts!

Elder homelessness is a critical issue, but a solvable one.

Access to healthy food and stable housing are deeply connected. Our team spent the day at the Fresh Truck, connecting Boston’s older adults with information about our supportive housing, outreach, and prevention services.

It is always powerful to be in the community, working alongside partners like Fresh Truck to ensure our neighbors have the resources they need to thrive.

More than half the homeless population nationwide is composed of adults over 50. At Hearth, our work features three main pillars: Housing, Outreach, and Prevention.

Tenants facing eviction, individuals facing foreclosure, Low-income individuals in financial crisis—Hearth's Prevention team works to ensure they all receive the compassionate support and critical assistance they need to remain housed.

Last year, 119 older adults worked with our Prevention team to keep a roof over their heads. We are grateful to our friends and partners to ensure our residents age with stability and dignity.

Exciting news from our team! We're thrilled to share that Dr. LaTanya Wright, Hearth’s Vice President of Outreach and Partnerships, has been appointed to the Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance Member Advisory Board.

With older adult homelessness on the rise, having a passionate advocate like Dr. Wright at the table is more important than ever. Her appointment ensures the unique challenges facing this community are central to policy discussions across the state. What a wonderful afternoon! We're sending a heartfelt thank you to the fantastic volunteer team from AEW Capital Management for joining us in hosting bingo and Sweet Summer Sendoff ice cream social for our residents. Your time and energy brought so many smiles to our community.
