Lakaï Dance Theatre roots itself in stories of home in order to highlight the issues affecting our communities and neighborhoods. The brainchild of choreographer McKersin Previlus, the company takes its name from the word for home in McKersin’s native tongue of Haitian Creole. Lakaï Dance Theatre draws on the full Afro-Diaspora of dances, making work that uses the idea of home to trace the ripple effects of harm but also of healing through families and neighborhoods. The company designs and leads workshops to identify and counter the ways trauma has been built up in our cities only to then follow us home. Exploring and then telling these stories of home through the language of dance lets us see the hand each of us has in facing the issues that must be addressed together if we are to become communities that can meaningfully be called home to all who live there.

DJ TROY Frost! If you know, you know… DJ TROY Frost is the resident DJ for both nights of Fèt Lakaï. Anybody that’s ever seen her spin already knows it’s about to be a vibe! Get your tickets in bio now and share this with your people.

Kyara Andrade-Howell also known as DJ TROY Frost is an artist, educator, and event curator from Dorchester and Roxbury. She started DJing in 2013 and completed Scratch DJ Academy’s certification program in 2015. After graduating from Barnard College in 2017, she worked for Boston Public Schools in varying roles. In 2019, she piloted The Breaks, an enrichment program which gave 15 Boston youth an introduction to the pillars of Hip Hop. Kyara now works part time as a library coordinator at middle/high school and at Frugal Bookstore in Roxbury. She teaches Hip Hop & Black History classes periodically. She is currently working on growing Purple Produce, an event series dedicated to creating events focused on Hip Hop, wellness, literacy and community collaboration.

Day 2: Brandie Blaze! Y’all ready for some heat? If you’ve ever heard Brandie’s music you know that her energy is unmatched! Brandie is coming to shut the stage down Saturday, November 25th for Day 2 of Fèt Lakaï!

Brandie Blaze is a hip hop artist from Boston, Massachusetts. Heavily inspired by Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj and Missy Elliot, Blaze spreads her message of “trap feminism” through her hard hitting bars and dynamic stage presence. Performing since the age of 3, she started writing poetry in middle school and transitioned to rapping in high school.

Blaze has had the pleasure of opening for such artists as GZA, JPEGMAFIA, STL GLD, Bbymutha and Junglepussy. She has also been featured in publications such as NPR, Vanyaland, Allston Pudding, Dig Boston, Boston Magazine, the Boston Globe, Elle Italia, Madame Rap and grammy.com.

Brandie is a 3x Boston Music Award Nominee and apart of the 2023 line up of Boston Calling. She will be dropping her 3rd LP this year.

Tori Tori is a Boston-based, multigenre vocalist, songwriter, and music producer. Her unique and eclectic musical style, as well as her storytelling prowess and mesmerizing melodies were highly influenced by innovators like Missy Elliot, Stevie Wonder, and Thundercat. They were honed during her time as a student at Boston Arts Academy and Berklee College of Music. Using nothing more than her voice, her looper and imagination, she’ll take you on a journey through her world, her coexistence with the pleasures and quarrels of love, and her ever evolving relationship with self.

Boston you ready to party? We countin’ down to Fèt Lakaï and can’t wait to see y’all! Fèt Weekend is a celebration of dance, music and culture like no other.

DJ TROY Frost is our resident DJ bringing the vibes both nights!

Day 1 (11/24) we have the incomparable ToriTori kicking us off followed by performances from Lakaï Dance Theatre and the Lakaï band.

Day 2 (11/25) We got Brandie Blaze bringing the heat followed by more performances from Lakaï Dance Theatre and the Lakaï band.

Fèt Lakaï is a space to come as you are and vibe with us. We wanna create a safe space to be you. Lakaï Dance Theatre is a dance company for the people so we hope you feel at home with us.
