i’m 1 in 5.
the ones who smile
but have a mind that never shuts off.
the ones who look “fine”
but are running through a hundred what ifs
at the same time.
postpartum anxiety isn’t just new mom nerves.
it’s the constant checking.
the racing thoughts.
the feeling that if you stop thinking about it,
something bad might happen.
it’s your body being here
but your mind always somewhere else,
trying to stay one step ahead
of everything that could go wrong.
the first year of being their mom,
my mind never rested.
and no one really sees that part.
because it doesn’t always look like struggle
sometimes it looks like being “extra careful.”
“over prepared.”
“just a worried mom.”
but it’s heavier than that.
and if you’re 1 in 5 too
you’re not alone.
may is maternal mental health awareness month…
and this deserves to be talked about.
