Meet the lab Mondays! Meet Delaney Taylor. She is the lead RA for the APPLES project.

Delaney is an undergraduate in the school of Communication Science and Disorders at Florida State University, interested in working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist after graduate school. Delaney is also pursuing her Interdepartmental Developmental Disabilities certification and is working towards induction into the American Sign Language Honor Society.

Her favorite children's book is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff

We are so lucky to have you, Delaney! Thank you for all that you do!!

Exciting week for the lab!! Our primary outcomes for our TALES 2 project were published!! Training Assistants in Language Elicitation Strategies (TALES) was a series of single case experimental designs (SCED) intended to support paraeducators and SLP-As in shared book reading strategies.

We are recruiting SLPs, SLP-As, teachers, teaching assistants, and caregivers to participate in a shared book reading study. I have posted about this study here before - and our recruitment is continuing through December 2025! All participants can earn $100 - $250 for participating and will receive free books. Participants are welcomed from US and Canada. Must be working with or have children ages 3-8; must have internet access; must speak English (and other languages are certainly welcomed - all study procedures take place in English). Children must have some spoken language and no severe sensory impairments (e.g. hearing or vision loss).

Attached are two separate flyers, one for educators (broadly defined - SLPs, SLP-As, teachers, and paras) and one for caregivers (in comments).

Rest in power, my Zoe girl!!!
When I started my CF in 2005, I adopted two kittens from the same litter. Buca died in May of 2024, and Zoe died today. 🌈💔

She was an opinionated soul, which I imagine happens when you are a cat with a PhD, for goodness sake.

I wrote so many IEPs, class assignments, a whole dissertation, manuscripts, grant applications, job applications, grant re-applications, promotion materials, and exams with this girl on my lap or nearby. From CF-SLP to full professor. It's a profound transition, and I'm honored to have been by her side until the very end.
🌈💔

One of the highlights of my summer was a 20-year reunion with my grad school besties!!! It's so hard to believe that we graduated from so long ago. These women have been by my side for all of the things that life brings you between the ages of 21 and 43. Our text thread is older than some of my students 🤣🤣

To those in or starting your master's program: soak in every moment of this opportunity to build your professional and personal network. It is a life changing experience - let it be a positive one!!

I was so honored to serve as the external examiner for Emily Wood's dissertation at the University of Toronto. Emily's dissertation was titled "Toward Equitable Literacy Assessment: Development of a Clinically-Informed Tool for Evaluating Word Reading Abilities in Bilingual Children". It was outstanding!! I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion, met some new colleagues, and toured the stunning campus of the University of Toronto! I also left inspired to think about our dissertation process a bit differently. Congratulations Emily (center in blue) and her advisor, Dr. Monica Molnar (2nd from right)!!!
