It is so tempting to try to think about what might have caused a miscarriage. But please know, it is not your fault! You did not cause your miscarriage.

There are many reasons why miscarriages happen, the most common being genetic abnormalities.

While what you do in your daily life cannot cause a miscarriage, lifestyle, diet, and self care strategies can help prevent one in the future.

Read our blog post to learn what you can be doing to prevent a miscarriage. For more guidance on preparing your body, hormones, and cycle for a healthy pregnancy, check out our virtual fertility program, . Link in profile

Let me start by saying acupuncture is both SAFE and EFFECTIVE for supporting a healthy pregnancy! Nearly a 1/3 of our practice is dedicated to pregnancy care.

Symptoms and conditions we treat in pregnancy:
- nausea/vomiting
- fatigue
- constipation
- heartburn
- pain (pelvic, back, neck, hips)
- headaches
- insomnia
- anxiety, depression, stress
- Breech presentation
- placenta previa

Here are our recommendations for acupuncture during pregnancy:
- 1x weekly during the first trimester (possibly 2x for morning sickness or other bothersome symptoms)

- every 4-6 weeks during the 2nd trimester, if no symptoms (more often if experiencing any symptoms like nausea, pain, heartburn, constipation)

- 1x weekly in the last month of pregnancy to prepare for an efficient labor (2x in the week of or after the due date)

Many of our patients choose to come weekly throughout their pregnancy to maintain good health and support their bodies and minds through each phase of pregnancy.

//Watermelon Mint and Feta Salad//

It may be September but it’s still in the high 90s 🥵! Bring on cooling foods please!

Foods have tangible temperatures (I.e. roasted veggies out of the oven are Hot 🔥! Popsicles out of the freezer are cold 🥶)

Foods also have a temperature “nature”- (I.e. dairy is cool, mint is cool, ginger is warm, lamb is warm)

Cold temps call for warming foods- both in temperature and nature

Hot temps call for cooling foods.

This recipe is full of refreshingly cooling and cold natured foods (watermelon, feta cheese, and mint) to help beat the heat.

Here is a the recipe to help keep you comfortable in this late summer heat wave.

Ingredients:
- 5 cups of watermelon (cut into cubes)
- 1/2 cup of diced red onion
- 1/2 cup of cubed or crumbled feta
- 1/2 cup of fresh chopped mint leaves
- olive oil
- salt

Directions:
- combine all ingredients, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Mix and enjoy!

5 Benefits of Acupuncture for Postpartum:

1. Helps recover resources (energy, blood) lost in delivery
2. Helps regulate hormones (I’m talking to you night sweats and BO)
3. Helps physical healing (scarring, uterus contracting, pain)
4. Supports lactation and breast health (mastitis, clogged ducts)
5. Helps regulate mood and support mental health

Postpartum care is one of our favorites and should not be overlooked. I know how hard it can be to make time for yourself in the first few months but it is really worth it for you and your relationship to your body, your baby and your partner. Babies are always welcome!

Over the past 8 years I have cherished the opportunity to work with all of our patients in Boston. It has been quite an adventure building this business that has brought me so much joy and fulfillment.

Now it is time for a new adventure. My husband has accepted a unique opportunity to work in NYC and my family will be moving to CT mid-August.

With this move, we will be consolidating the practice and will maintain a sole location in Boston.

While I will no longer be practicing in a clinical capacity in Boston, I will continue to run the office from a distance. I’ll still be behind the scenes answering your phone calls and emails, and addressing all of your billing needs.

This move brings a lot of of feelings- I’m excited for this new opportunity but sad that I won’t get to see you all regularly, share in the highs and lows, and be part of your direct care.

Fortunately, I am relieved and comforted to know that you are in the best hands with my colleagues Alison Greco and Holly Shuman, who will stay on in Boston. They are not only my friends but the most thoughtful, kind, and talented acupuncturists I could hope to share a practice with. Rest assured, they are both knowledgable and compassionate perinatal care specialists. Many of you whom I have never met, whom exclusively see Alison or Holly, know exactly what I mean. I trust them implicitly with your care and my practice.

I want to thank you for your trust and allowing me to live out my dreams and fulfill my purpose by serving you. I’m truly grateful.

Sincerely,

Ali

P.S. Stick around as I continue to share information about fertility, pregnancy and wellness here, as well as updates about what’s next!
