The CDC recommends that people who are on immunosuppression medications for the treatment of advanced kidney disease and kidney transplant recipients should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) at least 28 days after their second dose.

While the effectiveness rates of COVID-19 vaccines are very good, we now know that these individuals may not receive the same level of protection, also known as antibody immunity, from the COVID-19 vaccine as people who are not on immunosuppressive medication.
