The best thing about massaging your own body is that you control the pressure and can go exactly as deep as you want — which is why knowing HOW to control the pressure is SO important.

~ 4 ways to get deeper and deeper pressure while you massage your own shoulders ~
🧍‍♀️standing, wall sit, laying on the ground, or bridge pose 🌉

I’m using a for this, but you don’t need anything fancy. You can use any set of therapy balls or even and make your own double roller by putting two tennis balls into a tall sock and tying off the end 🎾🎾.
*
Drop a comment with which pressure is right for you: standing (least pressure), wall sit (a bit more), laying on the ground (nearly the most), or bridge pose (the most pressure)
*
As a longtime prenatal and postpartum yoga teacher as well as a certified perinatal massage therapist l can say these are SAFE massages for pregnancy or postpartum - it is safe to lay on your back for short periods of time during pregnancy, but if you feel at all lightheaded or nauseous roll to your side, let the feeling pass and choose a standing wall options instead.
Alternatively, 😉 DM massageclass and we can teach your partner how to massage these spots through pregnancy instead in our Partner Massage for Pregnancy course (no getting up and down off the floor needed).

🍁Autumn is the season for letting go and can be a particularly good time to sit with grief that we experienced over the course of the year.
🍂In Traditional Chinese Medicine this season is associated with the Lung and Large Intestine meridians that govern grief, sadness, and letting go.
💨But sometimes in our super-fast-paced culture it’s hard to imagine making space to slow down to grieve changes in identity, people who have passed, or relationships that no longer serve.

In addition, October is Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Month honoring the unique grief of bereaved parents. 👼

If you are carrying grief that could use intentional awareness these grief rituals may be a good jumping off point.

✨You never know what the universe has in store for you…✨

Walking down the Coal Creek Trail when I first moved to Lafayette I said, “wouldn’t it just be a dream to have my office in that gorgeous glass building overlooking open space close enough that I could bike to work? But, I’m sure it would be much too expensive. Those buildings rent to big medical practices…”

Fast forward a baby and two office moves in Lafayette and I had just about given up on finding our Lafayette home when I searched the internet ONE last time and discovered they had just split the second floor of one of those buildings into individual offices. I jumped at the chance and now it’s been 3 years!?!
*
3 years of owls, blue herons, hawks, squirrels, turkeys, supposedly a bobcat, a lot of cute preschoolers playing in the woods.
3 years of biking to work on a beautiful trail.
3 years of watching the seasons go by.
3 years of clients growing their families getting amazing massage therapy in their own community.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this office. We can wait for many more years to come 💕💕💕

Kayla has been part of the Mountain Mama Massage teamfor two years now, but she’s been a licensed massage therapist for over 11 years, specializing in prenatal massage, deep tissue massage and chair massage. She is available to new and returning clients evenings in Boulder and (new!) Sundays in Lafayette.

Kayla is an adventurer, camper, music lover, and mom. She’s a forever student and fan of trying new foods. She’s a mama, massage therapist, and soon-to-be postpartum doula.

One of the easiest self-massage techniques to release shoulder tension - especially the kind of shoulder tension that starts to creep up into the neck and head.
