Legislative update.

We recently received a message from our program director from DORA Zen Mayhugh,

The rules have been adopted and will go into effect on November 14th!

There have been no changes since the rules hearing - midwives who received their license before January 1, 2000 must apply to the director and the director will verify the qualifications. [And, there are no educational requirements for those who received their license after January 1, 2000…] However, we strongly encourage all midwives to refresh their knowledge and skills surrounding GBS prophylaxis! The CMA hosted a wonderful class with Aubre Tomkins, CNM, this past weekend and will be hosting another soon. Look for an upcoming announcement.

Here is the exact language from the statute:

“12-225-107.
(7) A registered direct-entry midwife who has initially registered prior to January 1, 2000, must apply to the director and pay any applicable fees before obtaining or administering group B streptococcus (GBS) prophylaxis as part of the registrant’s practice of direct-entry midwifery. The director shall verify the qualifications of a registrant applying pursuant to this subsection (7) before granting the registrant the authority to obtain group b streptococcus (GBS) prophylaxis.”

Here is a pdf of the permanent rules or you can see for yourself at https://www.coloradosos.gov/CCR/RegisterContents.do?publicationDay=10/25/2021&Volume=44&yearPublishNumber=20&Month=10&Year=2021

Sincerely,

Melissa
