My happy place 😄
Nothing makes me feel more alive than when my feet are in the dirt, especially that of a garden. Composting, sowing seeds, tending to plants, harvesting, preparing, fermenting, freezing, and saving seeds until the cycle repeats. I find my greatest connection to nature through plants. In each stage of their cyclic journey of seed to fruit to nourishment or compost and back to soil and seed once again. How ancient this connection feels gives me chills. I feel I was put on this earth to revel in this cycle and softly remind others that you, too, are part of the same circle.
In herbal practice, I always start with a meditation and grounding practice equally important for me and my clients. One of my go-to’s is mindful breathing to remember our innate and symbiotic (yes I believe this is possible) relationship with this Kingdom. As we exhale, giving breathe in the form of oxygen to the plants surrounding us and as we inhale, breathing in CO2, the exhalation from the plants. Breathing in the air that the plants breathe out, breathing out our air for the plants to sip. In each breathe, this exchange is happening. How beautiful to remember this continual exchange. How interconnected we are. Plants have the ability to heal us and nourish us - physically, emotionally, spiritually.
I’ll be in my kitchen all day getting creative with what society tells us is “waste”. This is my favorite type of plant-creation. Carrot and radish top pesto, broths from onion and garlic peels and kale stems and zucchini ends, frozen medleys of plants on their last leg, and so much more yet to be written.
Thanks for being on this journey with me. I hope this inspires you to look at a plant in a slightly new way today. Be it in the garden, on the street, in your refrigerator, or on your plate. Remember the cycle. Give thanks and see how this small seed of awareness begins to grow and nourish you in more ways that you can imagine! 🌱
