I wanted to officially re introduce Eliza as part of the Treat Counseling team. She recently transitioned from being an intern to a CSW and we are so grateful to have her at Treat Counseling to support our clients!

Eliza is a competent and compassionate professional, trained through postpartum support international in perinatal mental health.

Eliza Graduated from Utah State University With a Master's Degree in Social Work.  She received her Bachelor's degree from Weber State University with a major in Sociology and a minor in Family Studies.

Eliza entered this field because she is motivated to help individuals see their strengths and overcome their challenges by using evidence-based practices.  She is passionate about the intersection between women's issues and mental health and has regularly written about those topics.

She utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, CBT and other evidence based approaches in her work with clients.  Eliza has also been trained through Postpartum Support International on Perinatal Mental Health.

I love sharing my knowledge about Perinatal Mental Health Disorders.

Why?

Because knowledge is power…

Because stigma is real…

Because the conspiracy of silence is suffocating…

Because I learned through my own experiences what it is like to be on the inside of one of these disorders….

And then I kept learning and learning with the mission that no woman should have to suffer alone.

I love women that share this mission. J.Lara.Johnson is one of these women.

She has also learned and now wants to give, help and share her hard earned knowledge.

It was an honor and really fun being on her podcast! Give it a listen on any platform that has podcasting.

I feel strongly about pregnant and postpartum moms having access to care. So strongly that I am personally beginning an in person support group for FREE at my office in Bountiful.

We live in a society that creates a lot of barriers for new moms to thrive. A society that does not offer support. I want to change that. Join me for connection, education and support for this open group every Thursday night. via

How to complete the stress cycle option number 3, Laughter! We've all heard laughter is the best medicine right? Well it really can be. It increases relationship satisfaction, helps us "make and maintain social bonds and regulate emotions" (neuroscientist Sophie Scott). Laughter really gives us that release and helps tell our body that we're safe and that we can let go of the stress and gives us a sense of wellbeing and boost of happiness. So, go watch that funny fail video, dance like no one's watching, listen to the funny audio book and watch that witty sitcom, it's doing something important!

Stress can get a bad rap. Obviously too much of it is incredibly harmful, but our bodies are literally built to handle it. Unfortunately, we're built to complete stress cycles and then move on, but in our day of constant intangible stressors, it's hard to get that release and get back into our rest and digest nervous system. So, what do we do? Complete the cycle! When that tiger was chasing our ancestors, what did they do? Run! When we get an angry email from our boss, what should we do? Run! Or swim, or dance or hike, bike, lift weights, move! It tells our body that we're moving past the threat, we're using up all those fight or flight hormones and then we can move on from the stress. Do this anytime you have stress, i.e. everyday, and you can complete the stress cycle so much more efficiently and avoid burnout.

It sounds overly simple,, but really getting outside does so much for our mental and overall health. Here are just three reasons to go outside.

1) Increased immune system function (lasts up to a month!)

2) It reduces your stress, cortisol levels, heart rate and muscle tension.

3) boosts mood within 5 minutes!

So, if you're feeling stressed, grumpy, tired, down, get out in nature and you'll reap the benefits!

The only way is through. Ride the wave, deep breathe, notice where it is in your body and really feel it. The more we avoid, numb and distract, we'll get stuck and never fully process. So take that emotion and picture a tunnel, just go through it and you will come out the other side.
