Davis County Midwives

Davis County Midwives Bonnie is a mother to three red headed boys, wife to a red bearded man, avid recipe maker, yogi, bookworm, and wanna-be world traveler.

She has supported hundreds of birthing people in many birth situations such as home births, special needs, c-section, and unmedicated births. She has been serving the birth community since 2014.

Bonnie is currently focusing her training to specialize in safe vaginal breech birth. She is committed to creating and maintaining a positive birth experience for a birthing person and their birth team. When Bonnie is not focusing on her clients or promoting safe and healthy pregnancies for all birthing people in her community, she usually can be found in in her garden, on her yoga mat, running, or day dreaming of traveling the world with her family. Bonnie wishes she had more time to read and sleep, but such is the life of a midwife/mother and she wouldn't have it any other way! Karina is a mother of three, home DIYer and computer nerd.

Karina became passionate about improving birth experiences doing her own research and having a wonderful unmedicated first delivery, despite being categorized as high-risk due to having Type 1 Diabetes. Karina's goal as a midwife is simply to improve birth experiences – by helping to reduce physical and emotional trauma, by empowering through knowledge, and providing a safer birth experience led by your own body. Karina also has personal and professional experience with VBACs and diabetes during pregnancy and can skillfully educate on things that others may not have reason to know.

In her spare time she enjoys learning, camping and traveling with her three children and husband of twelve years.

We’re at the UMO Conference this week!
As midwives, we take our ongoing education seriously, because the families we serve deserve the very best.

Fun fact: all three of us serve on the board of the Utah Midwives Organization. We have put so much time and effort into making this conference a great one.

We are so excited to learn, connect, and grow alongside this amazing community.

Happy November everyone!
Fall is officially in the air and we are soaking in the last of the warm sunny days. (And really feeling the chill at 3am when we get birth calls!)
Just you're regular reminder that due dates are just an ESTIMATE!
We had a November client who was due closer to Thanksgiving have her baby the day before Halloween and a client due before Halloween, claim the title first baby of November!
Remember that these little babies of ours are wiser than we know, and they choose their birthdays for a reason. We love being part of their birth-day celebration!❤️🍂

"Human breastmilk is more than just nutrition - it's a living, dynamic substance. Under the microscope, you'll see fat globules suspended like tiny galaxies, immune cells moving with purpose, and complex proteins forming intricate patterns. It adapts to a baby's needs in real-time, delivering antibodies, enzymes, and even stem cells. What looks simple on the outside is biologically brilliant up close.

These clips reveal the hidden complexity of breastmilk - one of the most advanced substances the human body produces."

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’re excited to be hosting Utah Thermography at Davis County Midwives.

Why Thermography?
Thermography is a safe, radiation-free, and painless imaging option that detects heat patterns and blood flow in breast tissue. This can help identify early changes long before a lump may be felt or seen on a mammogram. For many women, it’s a gentle alternative to traditional mammograms and can be an empowering choice in proactive breast health.

Did you know?
1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide.

Early detection is key to better outcomes—and more options.

Together, let’s honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by taking proactive steps toward health, prevention, and empowerment.

📅 Appointments available October 7th!

What is the NEWBORN METABOLIC SCREEN and why does it matter?

In the last month, we’ve had two babies in our community screen positive for metabolic conditions. How crazy is that?! Thankfully, these conditions were caught early—before symptoms showed—because their parents said yes to the newborn screen.

So- what is it? This simple heel-prick test, usually done at 24hours old, then again at around 2 weeks of life, checks for dozens of rare but serious conditions that can affect your baby’s ability to grow, thrive, and develop. Conditions like: congenital hypothyroidism, phenylketonuria (PKU), and cyctic fibrosis, just to name a few. Many of these conditions aren’t obvious at birth, but with early detection and treatment, babies can go on to live healthy lives.

Saying yes to the newborn metabolic screen is one of the most important ways you can protect your baby’s long-term health.

A tiny heel prick, 7 drops of blood, a lifetime of difference. Plus a cute bandaid makes it all better. 🦙 (It's science.)

A new month is here bringing with it a new season.
We are ready and patiently waiting for babies to let us know when it's time. This is a gentle reminder that babies choose their birthday when we sit back and listen to them and a due date is just a guess.
August was supposed to be a slow month for DCM. We only had one sweet client on the books for August. Then we had a last minute sign on who had her baby two days after her first appointment with us. Two of our July babies waited til August to make their appearance, and two September babies have already arrived. Making our slow month anything but slow.
But it was beautiful and we just rolled w the waves tucking all the babies into bed to snuggle with their families.

You may have heard your midwife recommend red raspberry leaf tea, but what does the research actually say?

The Science:

Red raspberry leaves are rich in fragrine, a plant compound thought to help tone the uterine muscles.

Some small studies suggest it may help make contractions more effective and possibly shorten the pushing stage of labor.

It’s also packed with vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins, which support overall pregnancy wellness. Win-Win!

What We Know (and Don’t Know):

Research is limited, and results are mixed, so it’s not a magic tea, but more of a gentle, natural support.

If you are a DCM client, you might hear us recommend starting in the third trimester, not early pregnancy.

Always talk with your midwife or healthcare provider before adding it to your routine.

Have you tried RRL tea? Do you like it hot or iced? Share your experience below!
