Many people think only seniors need to have a power of attorney (POA) for health care or for finances. The truth is, they're important for adults of any age. Life is unpredictable, and having a POA will ensure that your wishes are honored even when you cannot express them yourself.
Every family’s care journey is unique, and so are the ways to pay for it. Right at Home helps families navigate options from private pay to public programs, making in-home care more accessible and affordable. When daily tasks become a challenge, the right support can make aging in place safer and more dignified. 💝
Behind every great caregiver is a heart full of something special. What do you think it is?

Outdoor spaces hold decades of memories for older adults, from backyard barbecues to quiet garden mornings. Instead of asking them to let go of these cherished places due to safety concerns, let’s ask: How can we help them continue to enjoy the spaces they love, safely and confidently?

Barby Keel, a 90-year-old Englishwoman, has spent over five decades rescuing animals from abuse and abandonment, saving more than 10,000 lives through her sanctuary in Sussex, UK. Her journey began in the 1970s with a single dog and gradually expanded to a 12-acre haven housing over 600 animals, including cats, pigs, horses, and chickens. Despite her age and having battled cancer three times, Keel remains deeply committed to her mission, working daily with the help of volunteers and refusing to retire. Her unwavering dedication even led her to end a relationship when asked to choose between her partner and her animals—she chose the animals without hesitation.

No two days are the same, but every day is full of heart. A day in the life of a caregiver.

Scott, a caregiver with Right At Home South Dakota, has gone above and beyond in supporting his client, Alex. While Scott provides essential daily care like personal support, homemaking, and errands, his role has grown into something truly extraordinary. He is helping Alex train for the 2028 Paralympics in swimming! From day one, Scott embraced Alex’s dream as his own, showing up with encouragement, consistency, and a heart full of purpose.
Scott has become more than a caregiver—he’s a coach, advocate, and friend. He lifts Alex up on hard days, reminds him of his goals, and educates others on how to support Alex’s journey. When asked what’s been most rewarding, Scott shared, “I didn’t know what to expect when I came into Alex’s house and he told me he had a dream to reach the Paralympics. It’s been unbelievable to see someone so driven and confident. Every day, he is committed to living life. He’s been more important to me in my life than I have been to him. My two passions are helping people and sports, and this combines both. Every day doesn’t feel like a job. I’m literally training a guy for the Paralympics!”
Right at Home South Dakota is honored to sponsor Alex’s journey to the 2028 Paralympics. This is what caregiving at its best looks like: purpose-driven, heart-led, and life-changing. 💙

JD and Nicole Woolsey, Owners
"JD and I’s story is almost like a fairy tale. JD and I met in high school at the ages of 13 and 15. We were friends for quite some time and then began to date. We were young and in love and thought we could conquer the world. We both went on to live separate lives, however. JD had a son Hayden and was married. I too got married and had a son Zachary. My marriage ended, so I was a single mom at the age of 21 until the age of 32 when I was with who I thought was going to be my husband. We had a daughter named Zoie. Her father and I never married and eventually went our own ways.
JD remained married and was married for 13 years when he lost his wife suddenly. JD and I had run into each other off and on for 20 years with a simple hello and how are you and then on our way. When I had heard the news of his wife’s passing my heart sank. I reached out to JD to be a friend for him to talk to. Eventually, JD and I started talking more about the past, the future and our children. My mom still had my promise ring JD had given me all those years ago. We got married August 7, 2015 on my grandparents wedding anniversary. We chose this special day to honor my grandfather who had passed away and my grandmother, a woman full of wisdom and love, who means the world to both JD and I.
