Welcome to Rehearsals for Living! Throughout our life we really don’t get a chance to rehearse how we are to be in the moment of becoming. What could have, should have, might have been? What did we really want as opposed to what we got? How can we get more of what we want? How can we be more true to ourselves within our relationships?
Rehearsals for Living is an experiential group process that happens in the here and now. It is intended to bring you face to face with yourself and others in the relational moment, where grow and change can happen. The work grows organically and creatively from what the participants bring to the group process, yet the underlying architecture is both solid, fluid and complex. Rehearsals for Living grows from the Foundational theory, philosophy and methods of J.L. Moreno’s Psychodrama, group psychotherapy and sociometry.
This effective and experiential group work provides connection with others, different from yourselves where you have the opportunity to find out more about the interactions between the I and the We. Any situation, Real or Imagined, from the past, present, or future can be visited in the here and now. This provides an opportunity to be responsive to the moment while in connection with self and others, adequately in your own way that works for you in the situation you find yourself in. You can practice in a safe space living closer to the life you want.
People act in certain ways because they are restrained from other ways to act. Rehearsals for Living allows us as a group to warm up to ourselves, each other, and the moment at hand. Within this co created space we can intercede in the moment of rigidity, dissociation, or catastrophe and create new patterns that honor our compassion, connection, and authentic self. Within Rehearsals for Living we develop more roles and more spontaneity within a given role, which includes an increased ability to stay in our own skin and respond adequately and personally in the moment.
Spontaneity is often erroneously thought of as being more clearly allied to emotions and actions rather than thought and rest. Spontaneity can be present in a person when they are thinking just as well as when they are feeling, when they are at rest just as well as when he is in action. All methods of approaching life are welcome.
We are first and foremost creative beings, and social beings. Rehearsals for Living provides a warmup to our own Spontaneous state. A truly spontaneous state can arise only from the authentic self. It is not abortive or reactive. It is novel, yes because it comes unbidden from inside of us. It is connective because it communicates life and love to others, it is adequate to the situation because it does not show off, and it is appropriate because it is not more or less than the situation requires. Spontaneity becomes creativity in interaction with people. We are not alone; we are indeed a necessary part of a bigger possibility. Inside of us we know to be with ourselves and others, and Rehearsals for Living gives us the opportunity to practice so we can take ourselves out into the world with more grace and joy and conviction.
