Acupuncture is Alchemy. Gold needles have a warm, solar, supplementing nature. I use them often for weak or cold patients. As we move into winter I reach for the gold needles more often. Silver is a representation of the bright silver moon, shining cool light into unseen shadows. I reach for these needles when a patient is agitated or feverish. By holding different needles over a point it is possible to see how the pulse responds to different metals.

From economical to ecological to spiritual, there are many layers to being in relationship with nature.

This retreat serves to strengthen the spiritual layer of relating to the land.

The collective disconnection to this spiritual layer is what caused us the problems that require environmental justice to begin with. When we take individual responsibility for healing our own separation to nature, the problems we were unconsciously contributing to cease to generate and solutions begin to appear.

From an Indigenous and Buddhist perspective, seeing the land as your body and your body as the land as one instead of separate IS environmental justice.

Before there was a need for environmental justice, there was environmental balance due to this inherent understanding and way of relating. It’s a matter of slowing down enough to remember again with humility.

“I dedicate the merit of this practice to ALL sentient beings.”

In Buddhist traditions, the dedication of merit serves to foster our own understanding of non-discrimination when it comes to which beings are worthy of our compassion.

When you think of sentient beings, what comes to mind?

From the indigenous perspective, we have always maintained a relationship with our seen and unseen relatives. This means interdependent co-creation with the foundational elements, nature spirits, local mountains, rivers, lakes, animals, plants, people, friends, family and self.

The intention of this retreat is to open perspective on the life that we are connected to but often overlook and how our liberation is contingent on the acknowledgment of these beings.

Buddhist voices advocate compassion for all beings.
Indigenous ways remind us of the unseen beings that in recent times are being neglected and forgotten and how this acknowledgement is a vital step in bringing about balance in this creation.

Dosage, combination, treatment duration, and prognosis are all underrepresented values in herbal education. This type of knowledge is rarely found in books and is best transmitted through real life interaction with an experienced herbalist.

Have you been giving yourself space to digest the input around you?

Sometimes, we get caught in the cycle of taking in more without allowing time to process it all.

To check in with yourself, ask:
• How does my body feel right now?
• Am I feeling overwhelmed or anxious?
• Do I feel physically restless or drained?

If you’re feeling stuck or mentally foggy, it may be time to slow down and give yourself space for integration.

If restlessness is setting in, moving your body—like going for a walk—can help clear stagnation and get your energy flowing.
