There is so much more to car seat safety than people think. To wrap up the week, here are some of our best car seat tips!
Use the Right Seat and Install is Correctly! Read the car seat manual and the vehicle owner's manual.
Rear-facing is safest: Keep your infant rear facing as long as possible, until they reach the maximum height or weight of their car seat! It might look like their legs are scrunched against the backseat, but this position protects their head and spine in an accident.
When forward-facing, make sure to use the tether to limit head movement in a crash.
Correctly Buckle! The harness should be snug, chest clip should be at armpit level, know where the straps should fit on the shoulders (at or below the shoulders for rear-facing and at or above the shoulders for forward-facing car seats).
Back Seat Only until age 13!
No puffy coats or bulky clothes under harness straps. In a crash, the clothes will compress and make the car seat harness straps not fit tightly.
Watch for the car seat expiration date! You can often find the expiration date on a sticker underneath the seat or in the owner's manual.
Replace the car seat after a crash, even if the seat does not look damaged. Avoid buying used car seats, unless you can be certain of the car seat's history.

A booster seat raises the child so the vehicle's seat belt fits perfectly across the strongest points on their body. Many heroes need their booster seats until they are around 10-12 years old.
Test your hero's seat belt fit with this simple Seat Belt Fit Test.
Can they?
• Sit all the way back on their seat
• Bend their knees at the edge of the seat
• Keep their feet on the floor
• Fasten the lap belt low, across their upper thighs
• Position the shoulder belt across the chest
• Stay put for the whole ride
