In Loving Memory of Wilbur Clyde Gahagan 🕊️
October 13, 1948 – May 4, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wilbur Clyde Gahagan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and chef extraordinaire — affectionately known to all as "Chef Gahagan."
Born in Washington, D.C., Wilbur lived a life of remarkable service and dedication. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Paratrooper, earning the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and receiving the National Service, Defense, and Good Conduct Medals, along with his Paratrooper Badge. He was a Past Master with the Prince Hall Masons, rising to the 32nd Degree, and a member of the Shrine.
After his military service, Wilbur channeled his passion into the culinary arts, becoming an Executive Chef and successfully opening several restaurants in the D.C. and Virginia area. His greatest joy was cooking for his family and friends — a gift he shared generously until the very end.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Jean Gahagan; daughters Winter Dockery and Doretta "Peaches" Gahagan-Lester; stepchildren Greer, Randy, and Shirl; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers James and Marshall Gahagan; beloved Aunt Elizabeth Jones-Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
