Congratulations to Ava and Cheri Chaney on receiving the Good Samaritan Award! đź’™ Ava and Cheri Chaney are a valuable part of resident wellness at Cal Turner Rehab & Specialty Care. Their time is voluntary and a great example of how it takes a village to help serve some of the most vulnerable within our community.

Nomination from Rebecca Tabor:
Ava, our precious therapy dog, along with her devoted handler and mom, Cheri Chaney, brings something truly special to Cal Turner Rehab & Specialty Care each time they visit. Ava’s gentle presence has a way of reaching hearts that need comfort, easing worries, and turning ordinary days into moments of joy. Whether it’s a quiet cuddle, a wagging tail, or a loving glance, Ava reminds our residents that they are seen, loved, and never alone. Behind every visit is Cheri’s kindness, dedication, and giving heart. Together, this beautiful team pours love into our halls and leaves smiles that linger long after the visit ends. We are endlessly grateful for Ava and Cheri and the light they share so selflessly. They are more than visitors — they are family and hold a forever place in our hearts.

Congratulations to Katlin Davis on receiving the Good Samaritan Award! đź’™ Katlin Davis was nominated by Nursing Admin based on her kindness to a family that visited The Medical Center at Scottsville Emergency Department. Time after time, Katlin steps in with empathy and action, ensuring every patient and family feels supported during their most difficult moments.

Nomination from Tana Taylor and Tracy Tabor:
We are proud to recognize Katlin Davis for truly exemplifying what it means to be a Good Samaritan! Time and time again, she goes above and beyond to ensure our patients are cared for—not just clinically, but compassionately. She consistently shows kindness, compassion, and selflessness to some of our most vulnerable patients coming through the Emergency Department, meeting them where they are during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

One instance that perfectly captures her heart for patient care involved a pediatric patient and a very worried mom who were awaiting transfer to a higher level of care. Seeing their needs and anxiety, Katlin didn’t hesitate. She personally left the facility to purchase snacks, diapers, and formula, doing whatever it took to bring comfort, reassurance, and dignity during a stressful time. Her actions helped ease a mother’s fears and ensured the baby had what was needed while they waited.

This is who she is every day. Her focus is always on patient care and creating the best possible experience for those we serve. She is always willing to jump in, help in any department, and support her team without hesitation. A natural leader, a compassionate caregiver, and an incredible teammate—she is truly a great asset to Med Center Health! Thank you, Katlin, for your unwavering dedication, leadership, and the compassion you show our patients and community every single day.

Please join us in celebrating Starlin Willis, our January 2026 Employee of the Month! Nominated by Jennifer Tabb, Starlin is recognized for her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the residents and team at Cal Turner Rehab & Specialty Care.

Nomination from Jennifer Tabb:
Starlin Wills deserves to be recognized as Employee of the Month for a variety of reasons. Starlin started with Cal Turner Rehab and Specialty Care in June 2019. She has been a nurse for over 40 years. Starlin quickly became a favorite with our residents due to her quick wit and sense of humor. Our residents also know that when she is their nurse for the day, she will continue to make sure they know how loved they are and cared for.

Starlin has been known to leave work and continue to call and check in with employees to make sure her residents received what they needed after she left. She has also contacted the Social Worker after she left work to discuss concerns she has with a resident and to make sure a solution is found.

Once, we had a resident who had a difficult time connecting to anyone due to cognitive limitations. The family contacted the Social Worker to express how thankful they were that Starlin worked at our facility because their loved one felt secure with her. The family stated the Resident talked about her when she wasn’t at work and expressed missing her when she was not caring for him.

Starlin not only cares for her residents; she cares for her coworkers, too. An employee was diagnosed with breast cancer. Starlin did not want this employee to sit alone for her first round of chemo. Starlin sat with her during this treatment and carried her sense of humor with her. Another employee was on leave after a cancer diagnosis. Starlin continued to check on her to see if there was something she could do for her. These words are not empty with Starlin; she truly means it.

Lastly, another employee was having health issues, and every time she saw her, Starlin stated, "How is your blood pressure today? If it’s good, sit down and let me check it."

Internships are valuable to Med Center Health and to the students who complete them. The opportunity provides students with an environment in which to learn and grow professionally, while enabling our organization to develop a talent pipeline of potential future employees.

Our next spotlight is Skyy Davis!

Skyy completed her Master's of Healthcare Administration internship with Med Center Health. She shared that the most valuable part of her internship was gaining hands-on experience in healthcare operations and administration. She observed how leadership decisions directly impact patient care, staff satisfaction, and organizational efficiency. Throughout her internship, she also worked in patient registration. After completing her Master’s, she transitioned into her current position as the Department Coordinator in the Med Center Health Adult Day Center.

Following her internship, one of the reasons she chose to stay with Med Center Health was due to the strong mentorship and guidance provided by her preceptor. She shared that the corporation fosters a supportive and collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and makes her feel valued. Skyy would recommend her internship to other students as it allowed exposure to real-life situations that you can take with you beyond the classroom. She is looking forward to watching Med Center Health grow and finding ways to contribute to such a positive culture.

Thank you, Skyy, for your continued service with Med Center Health!
