Spoiler alert:

I watched It Ends With Us. I thought it was great until the end. The movie shows incidents of violence that the survivor convinced herself were an accident. She later reflects and sees them in a clearer perspective.

The inaccurate part: leaving. Leaving your abuser is the riskiest time. Leaving is when the victim is most vulnerable.

In reality, you dont want to announce your departure or plans. You also don’t want to tell your hopeful abuser that you want divorce while he’s holding your newborn baby. The ending was a fantasy, and made it seem easy to leave.

If you watch this movie, take it with a grain of salt. There’s a reason why it takes an average of 7x to leave, and leaving is the most dangerous moment.

Lesley is a long time colleague of mine and highly regarded mental health professional. When I realized Allay Psychiatric exceeded the capabilities of one NP, I knew who I had in mind to partner with me.

Lesley worked as a RN on an inpatient psychiatric unit and sought her masters to become a PMHNP. She has been working in well-renowned private practices offering medication management and psychiatric evaluations.

I’m so excited to have her on board bringing her poise and brilliance to Allay.

TLDR: ISO for survivors to share their story

I want to take this month to share the stories of domestic violence survivors and allow their voice to be heard. I’d like to do one survivor story per day to spread awareness and give survivors a voice. Hearing survivor stories may help encourage at least one victim to leave. Domestic violence isn’t exclusive to physical abuse, but also emotional, financial, sexual, and more.

If you have an experience, whether it’s witnessing or experiencing DV during childhood, during romantic relationships, please DM me. Your story can be shared anonymously, we can do an interview. It is all based on your comfort level.

If you are looking for help or support in leaving, you can reach out to me with a vague message. Empower House is also a wonderful resource located in Fredericksburg that offers support of all kinds.
