With tears in my eyes and love in my heart, I am honored and grateful to say that I am the first former foster child in history to ever place in the Top 11 at Miss America.

Just three years ago, I was a homeless teenager carrying my life in a trash bag and wondering if my dreams would ever matter. Standing on the Miss America stage reminded me, and I hope reminds every young person, that your past does not define your future.

This moment is for every child in foster care, every young person who has felt unseen, and every dreamer who has been told no. You are worthy, you are capable, and you are proof that hope is stronger than hardship.

Congratulations to our new Miss America, Cassie. I am so excited to watch your year unfold with grace and strength. To the incredible women I shared this journey with, thank you for showing me that the greatest crown is found in friendship, sisterhood, and shared purpose.

I may not have won the title of Miss America, but I walk away with something even greater: a story that proves broken beginnings can grow into beautiful futures, and that every dream is worth chasing. Kentucky, I am forever proud to be yours!! ❤️

Necco goes above and beyond to support its independent living youth by making sure their apartments are not just functional, but truly livable. They provide essential furnishings and bedroom basics. On top of that, Necco even helps stock the kitchen with groceries if needed, along with cleaning supplies to keep the space comfortable. It’s a generous and thoughtful approach that helps young people feel at home as they take steps toward independence.

Meet Aaron, an 18-year-old Independent Living Ambassador from Lexington, KY.

As a full-time student at the University of Kentucky pursuing dual degrees in criminal justice and political science—with aspirations of law school and a future in public service—Aaron balances academics, work, and a social life with remarkable focus. After entering Necco through an emergency protective order, he embraced their Independent Living program and transitioned into having his own apartment.

Necco helps ease the stress of adulthood, allowing Aaron to stay focused on his goals. His story is a powerful reminder that turning 18 doesn’t mean facing everything alone.
