💭 What Is Imposter Syndrome?
Main Message:
Imposter syndrome is the feeling that you don’t deserve your accomplishments or that you are not as capable as others believe—even when you have worked hard to succeed.
Common signs include:
• Doubting your abilities
• Feeling like a “fraud” despite achievements
• Attributing success to luck instead of effort
• Fear of being “found out”
• Comparing yourself to others
Reminder:
Your achievements are valid. You worked for them.
💜 McCoy Counseling Center
Supporting WKU students and their mental well-being.

Many students experience imposter syndrome at some point during their academic journey. It can cause you to question your abilities, downplay your accomplishments, or feel like you don’t belong in certain spaces.
The truth is that growth, learning, and challenges are all part of the college experience. Feeling uncertain at times does not mean you are not capable or deserving of your success.
Recognizing imposter syndrome is an important step in building confidence and self-compassion. If these feelings begin to impact your well-being, talking with a counselor can help you gain perspective and develop healthier thought patterns.
The McCoy Counseling Center is here to support WKU students on their mental health journey.

Sleep plays a major role in your emotional and mental well-being.
Not getting enough sleep can lead to:
• Difficulty concentrating
• Increased stress or anxiety
• Irritability or mood changes
• Low energy throughout the day
• Trouble managing emotions
Tips for Better Sleep:
✔ Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule
✔ Limit screen time before bed
✔ Create a relaxing nighttime routine
✔ Avoid caffeine late in the day
✔ Make your sleep space comfortable and calm
💜 McCoy Counseling Center
Supporting WKU students and their mental well-being.
Sleep is an essential part of maintaining good mental health. When we don’t get enough rest, it can affect our mood, focus, and ability to manage stress throughout the day.
College schedules, responsibilities, and late nights can sometimes make it difficult to maintain healthy sleep habits. Prioritizing rest and developing a consistent nighttime routine can help improve both your physical and emotional well-being.
If stress, anxiety, or other concerns are impacting your sleep, remember that support is available. The McCoy Counseling Center is here to help students navigate challenges and prioritize their mental health.

When anxiety feels overwhelming, grounding techniques can help bring your mind back to the present moment.
Try the 5–4–3–2–1 method:
5️⃣ Name 5 things you can see
4️⃣ Name 4 things you can touch
3️⃣ Name 3 things you can hear
2️⃣ Name 2 things you can smell
1️⃣ Name 1 thing you can taste
Grounding exercises can help calm your nervous system and reduce anxious thoughts.

Anxiety can sometimes make our thoughts feel overwhelming or out of control. Grounding techniques are simple tools that can help bring your attention back to the present moment.
One helpful strategy is the 5–4–3–2–1 grounding method, which uses your five senses to help slow racing thoughts and reconnect you with your surroundings. Practicing grounding exercises can help reduce anxiety and create a sense of calm.
If anxiety or stress begins to feel overwhelming, remember that you don’t have to handle it alone. The McCoy Counseling Center is here to support you and your mental health journey.

Setting boundaries is an important part of protecting your mental health.
Healthy boundaries can look like:

✔ Limiting situations that increase stress
Taking care of yourself is not selfish — it’s necessary.

Setting boundaries is an important part of protecting your mental health.
Many students feel pressure to say yes to everything—academic responsibilities, social commitments, work, and extracurricular activities. While involvement and connection are valuable, it is equally important to recognize your limits and prioritize your well-being.
Healthy boundaries help you maintain balance, reduce stress, and protect your emotional energy. Learning to communicate your needs and give yourself permission to rest can make a significant difference in your overall mental health.
Remember, taking care of yourself allows you to show up as your best self in every area of your life.
If you ever need support, the McCoy Counseling Center is here for you. 💜
