Myo = muscle function 🤍

Myofunctional therapy focuses on how your muscles work—especially the tongue, lips, and face—to support proper breathing, chewing, swallowing, and even sleep.

When these muscles function well, everything else follows ✨

Small changes. Big impact.

🫁 Did you know your airway affects more than just breathing? 🦷

Airway-focused dentistry looks at how you breathe, sleep, and function—not just your teeth.

When the airway is compromised, it can contribute to:
• Mouth breathing
• Snoring or poor sleep quality
• Teeth grinding (clenching)
• Crowded teeth or narrow arches
• TMJ discomfort
• Even issues with focus and behavior in children

Instead of only treating symptoms, airway-focused dentistry asks why—and works to identify the root cause.

✨ This approach may include evaluating tongue posture, jaw development, and breathing patterns to support long-term health, not just a healthy smile.

Because better breathing = better sleep, better growth, and better overall wellness.

📅 If you or your child struggle with any of these symptoms, a comprehensive airway evaluation could be the missing piece.

Jaw pain isn’t always a bite issue. It can be a breathing issue. 👄💨

When your airway is restricted, your body compensates — shifting the jaw, tensing muscles, and increasing clenching or grinding to keep you breathing.

Over time, that strain can lead to TMD.

If we don’t evaluate the airway, we may miss the root cause.

Most common misconception:

Why clip the tissue that ‘anchors’ the tongue?”

A tongue tie isn’t an anchor — it’s a restriction.
When the tongue can’t lift, it rests low or falls backward, which can crowd the airway.

✨ A healthy tongue stays forward because it rests UP on the palate, not because it’s held down.

Releasing a tongue tie allows the tongue to:
• Lift
• Spread
• Suction to the roof of the mouth
• Support the airway naturally

👉 Function + posture keep the tongue forward — not tight tissue.

🫁✨ Take a breath… literally!

Slow, nasal breathing helps tone the vagus nerve—your body’s built-in calm button 😌
That means less stress, better sleep, and a happier nervous system.

Breathe slow.
Breathe through your nose.
Feel the calm. 💙

✨All I want for Christmas is my two straight teeth… and to keep them that way! 🎄😄

Myofunctional therapy is the secret to making your orthodontic results last.
When the tongue, lips, and facial muscles work correctly, they help keep your teeth from drifting back to old patterns.

🎁 Proper tongue posture
🎁 Correct swallowing
🎁 Nasal breathing
🎁 Balanced muscle habits

These aren’t just great habits — they’re the foundation that keeps your smile stable long after braces or aligners come off.

Give your teeth the gift of support this Christmas.

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
As you enjoy all the delicious bites today, here’s a tiny reminder from the myofunctional therapy world:

How you chew and swallow matters.
Proper chewing helps your jaw develop, supports clear breathing, and makes swallowing smoother and more efficient. Taking smaller bites, chewing fully, and keeping your tongue in the right position can make a big difference in long-term oral function.

Wishing you a day full of gratitude, good company, and mindful munching! 🧡

✨ Nasal breathing is the way our bodies were designed to breathe — but it only works well when we care for the nose itself. ✨

Help fight the nasal congestion that comes along with weather changes!

Healthy nasal passages help:
✔️ Filter bacteria, allergens, and pollutants
✔️ Humidify and warm the air
✔️ Support proper tongue posture
✔️ Improve sleep, focus, and overall wellness

That’s why nasal hygiene matters. A clean, cared-for nose makes nasal breathing easier and more natural.

Here are a few simple habits to keep your nose functioning at its best:

👃 Daily saline rinses to clear congestion and allergens
💧 Stay hydrated to keep mucus thin and airways open
🌬️ Use a humidifier — especially while sleeping
🚿 Enjoy steam from warm showers to loosen mucus
🏡 Reduce allergens by washing bedding weekly
🧴 Use nasal moisture gels for dry or irritated passages
😮‍💨 Prioritize nasal breathing throughout the day to train healthier patterns

Healthy nasal hygiene = healthy nasal breathing = a healthier you. 🌿

11/11/2025

If someone is already able to achieve the four core functions (tongue resting on the palate, nasal breathing, lips closed, and a proper swallow) without compensation, then the tongue tie may not be impacting function in a meaningful way.
A tongue tie becomes a problem when it limits things like:
• Ability to keep the tongue up at rest
• Ability to swallow without pushing forward
• Breastfeeding efficiency in infants
• Speech clarity (in certain sounds)
• Jaw or facial development
• Airway and sleep quality

And here's the key nuance:
Some bodies get really good at compensating.

Someone might look like they're functioning well because they've found a workaround, but that workaround may involve tension in the neck, jaw, or facial muscles. That's where evaluation matters.
So the real question isn't just "Is there a tongue tie?"
It's "Is there functional limitation or compensation?"
If function is truly normal and no compensation is present, then:
No release is needed.
If function is limited or the person is working too hard to achieve "okay" function, then:
A release may support better long-term outcomes.
This is why a functional evaluation + myofunctional therapy first is often the most clear and helpful approach.

Myofunctional therapy and tongue tie release go hand in hand. A tongue tie release can give the tongue more freedom to move, but freedom alone doesn’t automatically create new habits. That’s where myofunctional therapy comes in.

Therapy helps train the tongue to actually use that new mobility. We focus on strengthening the tongue, improving range of motion, establishing proper tongue rest posture, nasal breathing, and a healthy swallow pattern. This helps prevent compensation patterns and supports long-term stability after release.

In short:
The release provides the mobility.
The therapy teaches the function.
Together, they support better breathing, sleep, speech, facial development, and oral comfort.

Did you know that mouth breathing can do more than just cause a dry mouth?
In children, it can actually affect how their face and jaws grow — and even impact sleep and learning!

💡 Tip: If your child snores, drools at night, or often has their mouth open during the day, it might be time for an evaluation by a pediatric dentist, ENT, or myofunctional therapist. Early intervention can make a world of difference!
