At St. Mary’s Residential Community & Services, we are committed to creating an environment where individuals with developmental disabilities experience meaningful connection, structured support, and a true sense of belonging in Cenla. Our residents rely on a number of therapeutic aids to address their diverse needs. Aids like adaptive eating utensils, therapy balls, sensory swings and art supplies are essential tools we use daily to promote our residents’ independence, engagement and overall well-being.

Supporting people with autism doesn’t look the same for everyone.

At St. Mary’s, it’s built around the individual — and it changes as they grow.

As Dr. Eliana Pizarro, who leads autism support at St. Mary’s, shares,

“Society prepares us to make assumptions about autism, but we have to get to know the individual before we can understand their autistic experience.”

For Jayce, that looks like participating in his ABA programming and working through each activity with steady support. He communicates through gestures and is continuing to build new ways to express his wants and needs. These moments may seem small to others—but here, they are everything.
