Something you may not know about me is that along with massage, I am also an online fitness & nutrition coach which has sparked a lot of really great conversations lately.
One conversation that seems to get frequent flier miles is quality supplements. So I thought I'd share my thoughts with the masses because fitness, nutrition and over all health can be overwhelming and confusing.
**I want to disclaimer this by saying I DO NOT think supplements are 100% necessary for anyone but some supplements can be beneficial for a wide demographic of individuals. -- ALSO if you take prescription meds or have a current health conditions, please touch base with you P*P before just adding or subtracting things from your diet/regimen.
Protein Powder - Our favorite brand for this is JUST INGREDIENTS
-- 95% of the flavors we have tried have been really GOOD & do not have the chalky taste like most powders. -- The 5% that we did not like were the mint flavors.... if drinking chalky mouthwash is your vibe then you'd probably like them.
Pre-made Protein Shakes - Nothing beats Fair life -- Some ingredients could be better but overall they taste great and are a relatively inexpensive option (unless you go to Casey's then RIP to your wallet.) We pick up a case from Costco or Sam's.
Electrolytes - Just Ingredients can have ALL of my money for this one. Every flavor is a 10/10 and does NOT have a salty after taste. LMNT is another popular one, the ingredients are good but I just feel like I'm licking a salt block with every swig and the flavor is weak. So more of a 4/10 rating.
Pre Workout - If you know, You know -- I love a good pre workout & right now our go to is Miami from Bucked Up but I have never had a bad flavor from them. - ingredients aren't perfect but the taste is to good to pass up. Be Amazing is another good option for quality flavor. (I would not recommend Just Ingredients on this one - we tried like 3 flavors and they were saltyyy so try at your own risk)
Creatine - My only strong opinion here is that you get a monohydrate - Most creatine powders are a monohydrate but worth checking to be sure - Our go to for this is Just Ingredients or Thorne and it just depends on what else i need to restock.
Collagen - We use Just Ingredients or Primal Kitchen - depending on what else I need to restock.
Again I do not think a person has to take supplements to be heathy & consulting you P*P is always a good idea when adding/subtracting supplements.
These are a few of the most popularized supplements we take. We also take a few others from Just ingredient that have helped to improve mental clarity, energy levels, etc. so I highly recommend JI Products. - I personally LOVE their mission of creating products that are made with real food and skipping all the added junk that companies use to keep production costs low. Even with using real food, their pricing is very reasonable for supplements. If you decide to try anything from Just Ingredients, I do have a discount code to save you 10% at checkout - COACHJEANA. (I do receive a small commission from orders.)
A few other supplements I highly encourage people to look into is D3, Calcium and Magnesium because they are just good for the body.
OVERALL Your best option is to just eat quality foods and have healthier options in your home. You really can't go wrong with fresh or frozen fruits & vegetables.
& Lastly Carbs are not your enemy. They are your primary energy source so stop avoiding them like the plague.
