In honor of Family History Month, I'd like to share a discovery I made. My grandmother wrote a letter to her paternal 1st cousin, Charlie while in Grade School.
"Dear Charlie
How are you Feeling I hope you are better
I am Having a good time Writing at school
it is cold out side We Had a good time
in School
love
Dianne"
This letter was found in a cookbook that my Aunt Blanche owned at my cousin Charlie's house. Both my great grandmother Marion and my Aunt Blanche owned separate copies. This gives us insight that people went around selling these cookbooks and possibly other items. The cookbook was printed in 1939; however, my great grandmothers was in much better shape when I saw Aunt Blanche's, but I believe this to be because my great grandmother was very fastidious when it came to her house, which explains why it was in lightly used condition. Although there is no date written, I think it is an absolute treasure drove as it was hidden away in a cookbook, it just shows that you can find all sorts of things hidden away in your house that could breath life into your family history. On a side note, relatives books should be fanned through before deciding what to do with them as there can be treasure troves like these! You never what you are going to find, you just have to look!
