Like and follow for easy postnatal tips! One of the most simple things breast feeding moms can do to avoid that back and neck pain, headaches, and neck strain! And when you account for how many hours of the day you’ll spend in this position you will want to take this tip and run with it! USE THE BOPPY PILLOW AND STOOL! You can do this in other positions too. Just make sure you’re supporting your body and supporting baby close to the breast so you don’t have to lean or hunch.

Healing your core can actually be started before you even give birth. But for the people reading this who are newly postpartum and even currently in the hospital I’m letting you know that there are safe things you can do TODAY to lay the foundation for core healing.

🌸Cyclic Breathing
🌸Diaphragmatic Breathing
🌸Toileting Habits
🌸Posture
🌸Targeted Stretches
🌸Postpartum Compression Shorts
🌸Breastfeeding if possible, and supported Position feedings for bottle or breastfeeding.

There’s more! But these are no stress, simple practices that will promote healing and get you set up for a well healed and well functioning postpartum core.

A deep core activation should not involve bearing down, pelvic tilting, abnormal lifting of the belly, contraction of larger muscle groups, breath holding, etc. It is absolutely necessary to learn how to use the Transverse Abdominus (deep core muscle) properly before advancing your fitness intensity. This is a key component of postnatal rehabilitation. Follow for more tips. Reach out to a pelvic PT for guidance on postnatal recovery.

I love the Bear Plank position (as opposed to standard plank) for advanced core training after Diastasis recovery. So much core awareness, functional position, and total body engagement.

I’m never in shoes. I work out barefoot. I do yard work barefoot 🤷‍♀️. It’s not a conscious decision. I do it because I like feeling all those little muscles in my feet do what their supposed to do! Given, some people have more serious medical issues and require special shoes, orthotics, prosthetics, etc. but I’m talking about the rest of us. Spend some time out of your shoes when you get home. If you use orthotics it should be short term. When you go to buy a shoe, you need to be able to feel it, test it, walk in it. And lastly, your gait cycle can be thrown off by movement issues from anywhere in your body, even by a lack of head and neck movement! So start moving and improving your flexibility. All these things are great steps toward healthier feet.

I love helping women in their rehabilitation process. Small steps, lead to huge victories. For postnatal women it’s a big deal to not have to worry about incontinence, always wearing dark pants, having to wear panty liners just in case. Freedom from that is everything.
