“People often ask me how I got into hospice, and I always smile, because to me, it’s not just a job; it’s a calling. There’s something incredibly special about being able to support patients and families during one of life’s most meaningful transitions. It’s an honor, every single day.

One of my favorite parts of my role is doing intakes. I genuinely love meeting with patients and their families, helping them understand what hospice is (and what it isn’t!), why they qualify, and what they can expect moving forward. There’s often a sense of relief when people realize that hospice isn’t about giving up. It’s about focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Working at Hestia – Stillwater just makes it all the more rewarding. We’re a close-knit team with a shared purpose: to bring peace, support, and compassion to every family we serve. Whether it’s answering questions, offering a listening ear, or just being present, it’s the little moments that make this work so meaningful.

"I started volunteering for hospice after my mom passed away. Her hospice team was incredible, and I don’t know how I would have made it through without them. I wanted to give back, so I started volunteering for hospice in Bozeman shortly after. I’ve met some amazing people with beautiful stories. I receive so much more than I can give to them. Hospice care is often as much for the spouse, caregiver and/or family of our patients as it is for the patients themselves. Its not an easy thing to watch your loved ones struggle. Sometimes we must admit that as much as we'd like to, we can't do everything. Our experienced hospice team is ready to help in anyway possible. You may have heard that the time for which someone can receive hospice care is very short; however, it is actually longer than most people believe. Under Medicare and Medicaid, for example, the first two periods of care last for 90 days each, followed by an unlimited number of 60-day periods. As such, patient may receive the benefits associated with hospice care—such as reduced stress and greater physical comfort—for 6 months or more. This gives them a greater opportunity to enjoy the last months of life, while easing the burden on those they care about.

WE OFFER THERAPY SERVICES WHILE IN HOSPICE CARE
Some of the individuals who receive hospice care from Stillwater Hospice require help developing new skills to perform everyday tasks. Often, this is the result of a medical condition; for example, those who have undergone a stroke may have difficulty holding a fork or other utensils. Occupational, speech-language or physical therapy may be prescribed by the medical team when it is medically necessary. The goal is to help patients complete basic tasks and maintain function.
Additional therapies may be provided to patients and caregivers by qualified volunteers on a case-by-case basis.
