Have you ever…⬇️

Had a patient who’s goals are a long way away from their current level of function?✋🏼 AND they make those goals their only goals?😬

These goals are months, maybe even years away. They aren’t necessarily unrealistic, but they aren’t a good “starting point” - and SO many things need to be accomplished before you can even start thinking about those specific activities.⏱️

We NEED short term goals, and we need to discuss them with our patients. Goals that will help us reach that big giant long term goal in site, while also helping our patients function better on a day-to-day basis.🏃

Don’t be that person scrambling to do 30 hours of Con-Ed on March 30th😂

Let me be honest, I actually messaged my group of PT friends to confirm that CEUs were due this year. Anything from April 1,2023-March 31, 2025 counts.✅

But if you haven’t completed them already, you are likely going to have a hard time finding CEUs of interest that are live in your area, cost effective, and meaningful to your practice between now and then. 🤯 Take the stress off, use Medbridge. I renewed my subscription yesterday to get the last few hours I need!

Save for later 📚

We can’t talk about the brachial plexus without talking about all the complex conditions that can affect it!

Also, the internet photos of these babies are horribly scary. I hope these are much better😂

Did you know this one?🤔

I’ve been working on my Top 50 Medication Cheat Sheet and have been coming across some really interesting information!🤯

Like this fact, for example. Lipitor is the #1 most prescribed drug in the U.S. AND some of its most common side effects have to do with musculoskeletal pain.

What does this mean for us PTs? We might have a patient walk into our clinic complaining of an insidious onset of generalized joint or muscle pain. Well, if you look at their med chart and you come across Lipitor, your follow up question might be “when did you start this medication? Did your symptoms start around the same time you started this medication?”

Talk about PTs holding an important role in the primary care space!🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

I’ve been particularly passionate about this topic lately😎

Let’s start by saying this - disc herniations have an extremely good record of going back into place and do not require surgical intervention in most cases.

HOWEVER, when the disc herniation causes muscle weakness, THAT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY.

Let me know what you think!

To refer out or not to refer out 🤨

There are MANY patient findings I don’t mess around with - suspicion of blood clots, fracture, cause equina, etc.

But these diagnoses are the ones that I find myself and other physical therapists most often doubt themselves on.

They say to themselves “I mean, I could be over reacting and then I’m sending this patient back to their doctor or the ER for no good reason”.

But I’ve caught cases of CHF, pulmonary embolism, and masked hypertension in clinic that other providers have missed just because I trusted my gut.

I LOVE showing my patients with PD this infographic 💪🏼

It just goes to show that no matter your current level of exercise participation at the time of diagnosis, exercise has a HUGE benefit on QOL.

This was one of the highlights during PWR training with 🔥
