Sleep is an essential part of health and it demands a certain amount of your attention. If you neglect sleep, you will inevitably end up at higher risk for lower immune health, increased weight, lower energy, and decreased mood. The great news is there are many ways to boost your health by improving your sleep. One way to do this is through EXERCISE. Exercise of any type is an excellent way to calm the mind, boost the mood, reduce anxiety, tire the body, and improve circulation -- all of which can improve quality of sleep. Exercise is also great for improving the daily cycle that regulates our biological cycle called the circadian rhythm. Having a healthy circadian rhythm is critical in having healthy sleep. These benefits can be achieved with all types of exercise. Working even small amounts of exercise can be very beneficial.⠀
⠀
Working exercise into your routine is a great way to promote better sleep as well as get many other wonderful health benefits!⠀

I could talk for hours about the importance of sleep. It is a crucial aspect of health, and plays a key role in every system of the body. Despite its importance, almost everyone skimps on the amount of sleep they get. Having a set routine to prepare yourself for bed is an excellent way to encourage your body to relax and fall asleep more easily. Each individual step of the routine is a small cue to your body to prepare for sleeping. This can be anything from listening to the same music before bed or always brushing your teeth after you dress for bed. The actual details depend on your specific needs and the important part is having consistency so your body understands you are preparing it for bed. This consistency will make relaxing for bed a habit and enable the idea of "bed time" to come more naturally.⠀
⠀
*Quick tip* - potential ideas to incorporate into your bedtime routine: have a cup of tea each night after dinner, read a good book as you fall asleep, take a bath or shower each night before bed, and start your bedtime routine at the same time each night.⠀

It’s hard to beat the healing hot water coming up from the earth — and it’s available for soaking in just a short drive away in several directions. I try to visit local hot springs multiple times during the week. The thing I really like about them is the benefits go so much deeper than just feeling good. I love that when I soak, I’m not only able to relax more deeply, but my muscle aches melt away and my skin becomes so much softer.⠀
⠀
I want to tell you a little bit about why hot springs have so many health benefits in the first place. In part, it has to do with the actual properties of water. Water accomplishes things like hydrating your skin, removing stress from your joints, and soothing you by exerting pressure on your body. The heat of the water also plays a crucial role by relaxing your muscles, increasing your circulation, and relieving pain.⠀
⠀
But the most unique part of hot springs water that gives them so many great health benefits — benefits you can’t get from just soaking at home in a bathtub — is the high mineral content.⠀
⠀
Here are some of the most common minerals and the health benefits they provide:⠀
- Calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium are relaxing to the muscles.⠀
- Magnesium and bicarbonate are calming to the nervous system.⠀
- Silica, sulfate, and potassium are soothing to the skin.⠀
- Sulfate promotes health hair and nails.⠀
- Bicarbonate improves circulation.⠀

Dr. Bacon here. Last Friday, it was the end of a long week and I had planned a little bit of “R & R” for myself: I was going to get a massage. When 3 pm rolled around, I was ready to put everything in my mind aside for some much needed self-care. However, this was not just any massage. This was my f…

Well said Dr Krumbeck! I too have many concerns about essential oils and have seen more than one patient hurt by them. Essential oils are amazing medicine but they are also very powerful and need to be use with extreme caution. Check out this great read! http://naturopathicpediatrics.com/2014/09/08/essential-oil-safety-danger-essential-oils-seizures-children/

Essential oil safety. Remember that one drop of essential oil is equivalent to 15-40 cups of medicinal tea, or up to 10 teaspoons of tincture. Would you ever give a child 40 cups of tea, or 10 teaspoons of tincture? My goodness, I hope not.
