Montana Childbirth Collective

Montana Childbirth Collective Providing support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Birth with us, baby! By connecting with one another we discovered a shared love of the birth process.

In 2006, a group of female professionals including doulas, childbirth educators, and massage therapists came together in the hopes of developing their concept of a positive birthing community. Each member has an ambition for advocating positive development of good childbearing outcomes and the journey that family life can bring. Montana Childbirth Collective formed not only as a support system for

each other but to help women and their partners make informed and empowered decisions. Since it's inception, our membership has increased and changed to include a new energy and renewed vision. Our membership continues to grow, and become recognized in our communities. Our members meet monthly to learn, support each other and continue to work toward our common goals. Montana Childbirth Collective members are committed to supporting each other, being engaged in the community and in our shared desire to work with our mission statement in mind. Our members come from a variety of professional, political and spiritual belief systems - we wholly believe that this enables us to grow personally and better serve our communities and our clients.

The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (H.R. 3110) is going to the House floor for a vote! Call on members of the U.S. House of Representatives to vote YES on the . Text PUMP to 747464 (provided by MomsRising) or call 1-855-880-2155 (provided ACLU) and you will be connected to your Representative.

Call script: Hello, my name is [________]. I live in [city, state, zip code] and am a constituent of Representative [name]. I’m calling to urge [him/her/them] to vote yes in support of House Bill 3110, the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act. This bill will cover 9 million women of childbearing age who don’t currently have protections that would give them time and a private space to pump breast milk at work. This is wrong and must be fixed. Passage of the PUMP Act would make a world of difference for families and I hope you’ll vote yes when it comes to the floor this week.

Add your own words about why this bill is important and why your Representative should support it. Share your own story. Your voice is important!

TL:DR NEW LEGISLATION COULD STRIP MONTANA MIDWIVES OF REPRESENTATION LEADING TO POTENTIAL RESTRICTION OF PRACTICE

PLEASE READ!! MONTANA LICENSED MIDWIVES NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

Senator Tom Jacobson has introduced bill LC0050 which dismantles the Montana Board of Alternative Healthcare. This would mean MT licensed midwives would be licensed and regulated by the State nursing board.

MT licensed midwives are NOT nurses. This is a point of distinction we have always made. Would it be okay for electricians to pass laws governing plumbers? This is exactly what this bill does to midwifery.

This bill takes away any representation (direct or indirect) that midwives have at the state board level. We will have no seat on the Nursing board or advisory committee.

THIS IS REGULATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. Montana families deserve access to options. This bill could strip you and your neighbors of the right to midwifery reproductive health care.
Midwives, local small business owners in your community, could lose their livelihoods.

PLEASE stand with Montana Licensed Midwives. If you are a MT citizen PLEASE do the following (templates below the action steps):

1. Email Senator Tom Jacobson sharing your opposition to the forward movement of LC 0050 and demand Midwifery representation. Tom.Jacobson@mtleg.gov

2. Call his office and state the same message 406-868-9814

3. Facebook message him the same message. (search Senator Tom Jacobson)

4. Share this post and ask your friends, Montana Citizens, to do steps 1-4

Email and Facebook message template:

Hello Senator Tom Jacobson,

My name is (use your name) and I am a Montana Citizen from (your county) county. I am writing to share that I oppose LC 0050 that would dismantle the Montana Board of Alternative Healthcare and would force Licensed Midwives to be regulated by the Montana Nursing Board. Both the naturopaths and midwives oppose this bill. This bill removes any board or advisory board representation of the Licensed Midwives. This allows for regulation without representation. Licensed Midwives are not nurses, and I question the ability of a profession, not associated with direct-entry midwifery, to regulate midwives. Thus, potentially creating an unethical situation involving restriction of competition and supporting the monopolization of healthcare options. This could reduce my healthcare options for Montana citizens, and under represent midwives at the board level while potentially creating trade restriction of midwives.

Thank you,
(your name)

I believe the Board of Alternative Healthcare does an effective job at licensing, regulating and representing these professions.

We are seeing widespread community transmission of COVID-19 all across Gallatin County. Please do your part to slow the spread. Wear a mask, avoid large gatherings, wash your hands and sanitize frequently touched surfaces!

08/03/2020

From the beginning of humankind, women have supported other women as they birthed their babies. These support persons are known as “doulas.” Doulas are welcomed into homes, birth centers, and hospitals alongside a laboring woman and her partner as a key component to the birth team.
