Macrobiotics is a lifestyle that’s all about balance, mindfulness, and nourishing your body with whole, natural foods. Think mostly whole grains, fresh veggies, beans, and a focus on seasonal, local ingredients.

The main health benefits of following a macrobiotic diet include:

• Lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers: People who follow macrobiotic diets often have low fat and cholesterol levels, which may reduce the risk of heart disease, breast cancer, and other cancers linked to high-fat diets.

• Improved cardiovascular health: The diet’s emphasis on whole grains, vegetables, and fiber helps lower blood pressure and serum lipid levels, supporting heart health.

All these will change the parameters of how much grains or protein are needed in the diet. But, as a whole, I love the macrobiotic diet. It provides the structure of nutrition that can be adapted to various parameters.

The book “Eating the Wu Way” by Steven Acuff has an excellent balanced approach to macrobiotics including many recipes. There are also a lot of other books that follow different branches of macrobiotics.
