We’re making every step count this month! 🚶♂️
Along with our ongoing weight loss challenge, we’ve added a 14-day steps challenge to keep us motivated and moving. In our community, we believe that creating a happy, healthy, purposeful life starts with these daily habits. It’s not just the numbers on a pedometer; it’s about the laughter shared during our walks and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
Who knew wellness could be this competitive? 🔥✅

We let the good times roll this past Fat Tuesday! 🎷
Our community was alive with the sounds of live music and the joy of dancing as we celebrated Mardi Gras in true New Orleans style. The highlight of the day was slicing into authentic King Cakes from the famous Gambino’s Bakery—we all held our breath to see who would find the baby and be crowned King or Queen for a year of good fortune!
It’s traditions like these that help us and together. 👑🍰

Whether we were rooting for gold or debating the big plays, the best part was simply being surrounded by great friends. Our Executive Director, Doug, even stepped behind the bar to keep the drinks flowing during the game!
It’s easy to stay young at heart when life is this full of good times and even better company.

We love being a place where team members can thrive and where our community can play a direct role in fostering positive change!
Point Pleasant Scholarship Empowers Team Member's Career Goals
When Melanie Hernandez came to Westminster Bradenton in 2024 as an assistant in the Social Services office, it was the first step in what she saw as a personal mission. While growing up in Naples, Florida, social workers had always impressed her. She recalls at least one who served her family in various critical ways. It helped lead her to pursue her current career path.
After joining Westminster, it wasn’t long before Melanie found herself doing the work of several team members during a critical staff transition. But she adapted well to the challenges and earned the admiration and respect of her fellow team members.
“I definitely had a big learning curve when I first started working here,” Melanie said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for what I went through.”
The experience only hardened Melanie’s commitment to social work, and so she decided to look into a master’s degree from University of South Florida. The highly-regarded graduate program offered a path for her to keep her full-time job while earning the degree.
“I felt like I needed to do more, and I knew a master’s would help me reach that,” Hernandez said.
Melanie had heard earlier about various options for help with tuition, so she immediately inquired about the Point Pleasant Resident Scholarship. The application process was simple and straightforward.
“I heard back from the committee pretty fast,” she said. “I felt very comfortable during the interview.”
Melanie has completed and passed a full two semesters with flying colors and hopes, if all goes as planned, to graduate in December. Her long-term goal is to eventually work in a hospital setting – preferably a cancer hospital – and to eventually become a licensed medical social worker.
To other team members considering applying for the resident scholarship, Melanie advises them to plan and apply early.
“It’s already stressful enough,” she said. “Apply early and you relieve a lot of stress.”
Melanie is keenly aware of how much she has benefitted from her time at Westminster, from the work itself, to the donors and volunteers that ensured the scholarship was available to her, she lives with a lot of gratitude. Without the scholarship, she would have been at least a two more years away from her goal.
“I definitely wouldn’t be getting my masters this quick after getting my bachelors,” Melanie said. “So I’m very grateful for the opportunity. Not a lot of people can say that!”
The Bradenton Point Pleasant Resident Scholarship is a partnership of the Point Pleasant Resident Council and the Westminster Communities Foundation.
