I would like to take this time to remind you to wear your sunscreen, even if you're only going outside for a short period of time. The Florida ☀️ can cause a first degree burn within 15 minutes, and a second degree burn after 30-40 minutes (if the UV index is high) 🔥 . If you're like me, and have fair skin, a hat and sunscreen is a must, regardless of the UV index.
Painful sunburns to the epidermis (and dermis) can lead to dehydration and can take weeks to months to heal, while also leaving permanent scarring. Don't let a fun day at the beach leave you in pain! Check the UV index before you head out and wear your sunscreen!
Also remember, all sunscreens were created equally, and some even contain harmful chemicals 😤. Please click on the following link to review the recommendations from the non-profit group, the Environment Working Group, for their list of effective and safe sunscreen. https://www.ewg.org/sunscreen/
And finally, if you do forget to apply it, and you wind up with a painful burn, I'll be at the clinic to provide you with excellent evidence based care! Stay well! ❤️ Elizabeth Young, CWS
