SunCoast Blood Centers are the exclusive blood products provider to the patients and medical centers of Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties in Southwest Florida. Fike and Dr. Millard White founded the Lower West Coast Blood Bank in February 1949, they planted the seeds of a humanitarian idea that would blossom over five decades. For more than 73 years, tens of thousands of dedicated volunteers, just like you, have helped to provide the critical life saving gift of blood to our local hospitals and patients. Today, the SunCoast Blood Centers are the exclusive blood products provider to the patients and medical centers of Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties in Southwest Florida. We are the nation’s pioneer in innovative blood donation strategies such as our “Donate@Home” service where we come to donors’ homes in a shuttle bus for a safe, quick, and convenient donation experience. SunCoast Blood Centers

O.K. Fike and Dr. Millard White founded the Lower West Coast Blood Bank on February 14, 1949. Now known as SunCoast Blood Centers, one of the oldest nonprofits in the community, tens of thousands of dedicated volunteers each year provide the critical lifesaving gift of blood and platelets for local patients. In 1949 the Blood Bank collected 551 pints of blood, now called units. Today, more than 1,000 blood drives are held annually in the communities we serve (Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Desoto counties). As we move forward, researchers and scientists offer technological advances that promise to revolutionize transfusion medicine and the growing field of cellular therapy. SunCoast provides its donors with state-of-the-art collection and testing instruments that maximize blood donor and recipient safety and comfort. The success of this organization lies completely on the generosity of its generous donors.

SunCoast Blood Centers is a registered 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation supported by hundreds of individuals, corporations and foundations. All gifts to SCBB are fully tax-deductible as outlined by the IRS. Our Federal Tax ID number is 59-0873275.
