Behind every safe and successful hospital stay is a team working hard to prevent complications before they happen. Our Inpatient Wound Care team are among those heroes—partnering with nurses and providers to monitor skin health, identify risks early, and support healing. 💚

Last Thursday was Worldwide Pressure Injury Prevention Day and to celebrate it, the team visited units to share education and reinforce best practices. Their work keeps our patients safer, stronger, and on the path to recovery! 💪

🍂A Feast to Remember 🦃 Yesterday, we celebrated Friendsgiving, where staff from Manatee Memorial, our Freestanding Emergency Departments (FEDs), and Manatee Diagnostic Centers🏥 “feasted” on good food and even better company. From gravy jokes to pie debates, the rooms were filled with conversations and laughter. These shared moments help during busy days and make our commitment even stronger. 💪

Healthcare is built on teamwork, trust, and shared purpose. When we support one another, we care better for our patients, our community, and ourselves. Grateful for this amazing staff, today and every day. 💚

Manatee Memorial Hospital’s Medical Staff gathered last night at the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa to celebrate another year of collaboration, progress and exceptional patient care. The 72nd Annual Medical Staff Meeting brought together physicians from across the organization, led by Chief of Staff Dr. John Hansill, who delivered an energizing message about the accomplishments of 2025 and the opportunities ahead in 2026 and beyond.

One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the Unit of the Year Award, given this year to the Labor and Delivery Department, which is on track to welcome at least 2,000 babies in 2025—a reflection of both exceptional care and community trust. In addition, Dr. Jose Erbella was honored with the Golden Quill Award for his recently published book, Advice for the High Risk: 10 Things to Know to Lower Your Risk of Cancer – A Cancer Surgeon’s Guide to Living Your Healthiest, Longest Life.

The past year was commemorated by remarkable achievements across the hospital as well:
Outstanding Quality Performance: Manatee Memorial continued its upward trajectory in quality outcomes, earning impressive performance scores across multiple service lines.

Cardiology Milestones: Our cardiology program achieved national and statewide recognition—ranking Top 10 in the U.S. for more than 2,000 Watchman implants and earning the #1 position in Florida for MitraClip placements.

Robotics Excellence: The robotics program celebrated major accomplishments, with Dr. Stacey South surpassing 3,000 robotic procedures, and Drs. Stelios Rekkas and Jose Erbella each reaching 2,500—a testament to the hospital’s leadership in minimally invasive surgery.

Graduate Medical Education Growth: The GME program welcomed 18 new residents, bringing the total to 45, further strengthening the hospital’s investment in training the next generation of physicians.

The event celebrated not only extraordinary accomplishments, but the teamwork and momentum that continue to shape Manatee Memorial Hospital’s bright future. For more information about Manatee Memorial Hospital and Manatee Health, please visit https://www.manateehealth.com/.

As we observe National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Manatee Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the arrival of the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System by Intuitive, a next-generation bronchoscopy platform that transforms how physicians diagnose and manage lung disease. This technology marks a major advancement in the hospital’s Comprehensive Lung Program, offering patients in Manatee County, and beyond, access to precision diagnostics and the latest innovations in healthcare delivery.

The Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System enables physicians to perform minimally invasive, highly accurate navigation and biopsy of lung nodules. Its advanced design provides exceptional reach, stability and control, allowing doctors to access even the smallest, most difficult-to-reach areas of the lung. The system supports earlier detection and diagnosis of lung cancer with reduced discomfort, fewer complications, and faster recovery for patients. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. According to the American Lung Association, only 28.1% of cases are diagnosed at an early stage—when the five-year survival rate can reach up to 65%. By enhancing the precision and efficiency of lung nodule biopsy and diagnosis, enhanced efforts can be made to reduce lung cancer mortality through earlier detection and timely intervention.

“Bringing the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy System to Manatee Memorial represents a significant step forward for our community,” said Andy Guz, Chief Executive Officer of Manatee Memorial Hospital. “This technology reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the latest advancements so that patients in Manatee County, and surrounding areas, don’t have to travel outside our region for exceptional care.”

🌎 World Prematurity Day 💜 Every November 17, we recognize the tiniest fighters and the incredible teams who help them grow stronger every day — including our Pediatric Physical Therapists who play a vital role in each baby’s developmental journey.

Did you know roughly 10% of babies in the U.S. are born prematurely? 👶For them, early movement is essential. Our Pediatric Physical Therapists work closely with families and NICU staff to support infants as they develop the foundational skills they need for breathing, feeding, and moving safely. From positioning that protects fragile joints, to gentle exercises that help build strength and motor control, to teaching parents how to support development at home — their work helps set the stage for milestones big and small.

Every stretch, every lift of the head, every little kick matters. Today we thank them for their dedication, specialized expertise, and the hope they bring to families welcoming their little ones into the world a bit earlier than expected.

💜 Here’s to the babies, the families, and the therapists who help them grow!
