May is Stroke Awareness Month! 🎉 Manatee Memorial’s Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center brought stroke awareness directly to the hospital lobby by sharing educational resources and information with staff, patients and visitors about knowing the signs of stroke and responding fast.

👉 Did you know up to 80% of strokes are preventable through healthy lifestyle changes and managing risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and cholesterol? Thank you to our Stroke Coordinator, Christina Krisak, RN, for taking the time to help educate and support our community during Stroke Awareness Month! 💚

⭐ Congratulations to Manatee ER at Palma for being named the 2025 Universal Health Services, Inc. - UHS Acute Care Division Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) of the Year, among 35 UHS FEDs nationwide! 🎉 This achievement is proved by the team’s exemplary results in areas like Combined Performance Improvement and Patient Experience throughout last year. To celebrate this, the Palma Sola staff gathered, recognizing the hard work behind this well-deserved distinction. And of course, no celebration is complete without cake! 🎂 This beautiful creation was made by Ed Rubert, Charge Nurse at Palma Sola, showing off a hidden talent outside of healthcare! We are proud of our Palma Sola staff and grateful for the impact they continue to make for our patients and community every day. 💚

📦 Special delivery for our smallest patients 🍼 This week we received our first delivery of children’s books donated by the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County. Families in our NICU receive the book titled “Otter’s Heart Family” to read with their babies and take home upon discharge, helping continue bonding, build self-esteem and develop emotional wellness. Manatee Memorial is one of only 45 hospitals participating in the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) program and the only hospital offering the book in both English and Spanish. 👏

The initiative comes through the Supporting Optimal Outcomes Through a Healing Environment (SOOTHE), which was launched by FPQC in October 2025. 📚 SOOTHE helps create a neurocreative environment in the NICU that supports healthy brain development for babies. Thank you to our NICU nurses for participating in this wonderful initiative! 💚

🎉 Happy EMS Week! 🚑 Today, we had a special lunch for Manatee County’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals. These are the individuals who respond to emergencies, provide lifesaving care in the field and safely transport patients to Manatee Memorial. They work closely with us, playing a critical role in the healthcare journey every single day. 🏥

Behind every ambulance arrival is a team dedicated to helping patients when they need it most. For that, we want to thank them for their hard work in our community and for the teamwork they bring to patient care. Please join us in congratulating them! 👏

👏 Go, Manatee Memorial! 🏓This past weekend, two members of our Rehabilitation Department, Melissa Mato, Physical Therapist (left), and Renee Di**le, Occupational Therapist (right), proudly represented Manatee Memorial at the annual Latin American Medical Association pickleball tournament in the Lakewood Ranch area! 🏆 The duo gave it their all on the court, demonstrating the same teamwork, dedication, and energy they bring to our patients every day. We are proud to have sponsored this event, supporting an opportunity that brings healthcare professionals together through connection and friendly competition. Great job, Renee and Melissa! 👏

Who knew we had this much talent? 👀 We wrapped up Hospital Week on a high note with one of our most exciting events yet: Manatee’s Got Talent! 🎙️ Staff from departments across the hospital came together to cheer on coworkers as they took the stage and showed off talents many of us never knew they had. From incredible musicians and talented singers to a comedian who had the crowd laughing, the performances made for an unforgettable finale to an amazing week.

Beyond the fun and entertainment, events like these remind us that we are part of something bigger than just a workplace. Hospital Week has been about connecting, celebrating and recognizing the incredible people who make our hospital what it is every day. We were truly blown away by the amount of talent across our hospital and loved seeing everyone come together like the family we are. After all, this is the culture we are creating. 💚

Excellence in Nursing Mentorship 🩺 Earlier this week, the State College of Florida Foundation, Inc. (SCF) held its “Lighting the Path” event to recognize and celebrate individuals in our community who help shape and support the development of strong, practice-ready nurses through SCF’s nursing program.

We’re proud to share that two of our own were recognized for their impact and dedication to mentoring and supporting future healthcare professionals: Alphonso White, RN, from our Cardiac Service line and Melissa Mato, PT, CWS, Manager of our Inpatient Rehabilitation Services. 👏

Their leadership, guidance and commitment to education continue to make a meaningful impact not only within our hospital, but also in the future of healthcare throughout our community. Help us in congratulating Alphonso and Melissa in the comments! 👇

🎉Celebrating our Neuroscience Nurses! 🧠 As a nationally recognized hospital for quality stroke care receiving the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®– Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the 15th year, the association’s Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll award for the 7th year, and the Comprehensive Stroke Certification by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), we wouldn’t have done it without the help of the nurses who care for patients experiencing strokes and neurological conditions. These nurses play an important role during some of the most critical moments in a patient’s life because when it comes to neurological care, every second matters. ⌚

🧠 Did you know that every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke? Calling 911 is the fastest way to get stroke care. The faster stroke is treated, the more likely the patient is to recover.

We are grateful to have such a dedicated team in our Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center. Thank you for all you do for the community! 👏 Learn more about the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center here: https://bit.ly/4diYSlO.

🏝️ Aloha from Manatee Memorial! 🌸 Today’s Hospital Week celebration brought island vibes, great food, and even greater company as our team came together for a tropical-themed cookout! Hamburgers and hot dogs were made fresh off the grill, fun decorations and a live steel drum playing in the background made it all come together.

We received a special visit from Cortez the Manatee from Manatee County, Florida Government and Marty the Marauder from the Bradenton Marauders. Nurses, staff, and physicians took turns for a selfie moment with them! During the celebration, we also recognized employees and departments for the impact they make every day:

🏆Leader of the Year: Lara Alexander, Director of Cardiology Services
🏥Department of the Year: Case Management
🩺Nurse of the Year: Sarah Whalen, RN
⭐ UHS FED of the Year: Manatee ER at Palma Sola

At the end of the day, this is what our culture means: being part of a team, support, relationships and connections built between the people who work side-by-side every day to care for our community. Stay tuned… Hospital Week is not over yet, more to come tomorrow!
