If a spot does one of these 3 things… it’s time for a skin check. Most people are taught to watch for the classic ABCDE melanoma signs.
But in real life, a lot of skin cancers don’t look dramatic at all.

These are three subtle things dermatologists see all the time:

1. A spot that won’t heal.
It bleeds… then scabs… then looks like it’s healing… then starts the cycle again.
Anything that keeps repeating that pattern for weeks deserves a look.

2. A mole that starts changing or even fading away.
People think a mole disappearing is a good sign — but any change in a mole matters, including getting lighter or partially disappearing.

3. A “rash” that never goes away.
Tiny red patches that don’t respond to creams can sometimes be basal cell or squamous cell cancers, not eczema.

Skin cancer doesn’t always scream for attention.
Sometimes it just quietly refuses to go away.

If something on your skin keeps catching your attention… trust that instinct and get it checked.

Early skin cancers are much easier to treat than the ones people ignore for months or years.

3 skin cancer warning signs people ignore every day…

1️⃣ A bump that won’t heal
It bleeds → scabs → seems to heal → then comes back.
That repeating cycle is a huge red flag.

2️⃣ A mole that starts disappearing
Everyone worries about moles getting darker or bigger…
but moles fading or “melting away” can also be a warning sign.
Any change deserves a look.

3️⃣ A “rash” that never goes away
If a red patch doesn’t respond to creams or keeps lingering, pay attention.
Skin cancers (especially basal and squamous cell) can sometimes mimic eczema.

If something on your skin is new, changing, or just won’t heal, it’s worth getting checked.

Before you get offended, in all seriousness, we have lots of patients with needle phobia and medical anxiety. We are here to help! Never be afraid to speak up if you need some tools to manage the pain or stress. We have ice, numbing cream, and pills to help with anxiety if you need them.

This happens all day in clinic. Patients say it doesn't hurt, it can't be bad. Sometimes the quietest spots are the ones we worry about the most.

I'm good at many things. Applying a bandage, not so much.
