Jenn never lived in a real home. When she was 14, her mom fell into addiction and abandoned her, and her dad declined custody, so she learned to fend for herself in foster care.
J: “That lack of a home followed me into adulthood. I just kept moving. I never developed a real connection. I’d sleep on couches and move in with men I barely knew just to have a roof over my head.”
Every time she moved, she’d pack up her only belongings: a backpack and trash bag of clothes.
At 23, she ended up hooked on co***ne and pregnant.
J: “I screamed and cried and contemplated abortion because I literally had nothing and no one. When you’re in a crisis, your first response is, ‘how can I make this go away?’ But I decided to ask, ‘what can I do to get through this?’ And that’s when I found Solve.”
🏠 At Solve, her definition of “home” changed forever.
J: “I walked in my room and it hit me. I took my clothes out of that little trash bag and put them away in my own dresser. Then I laid down on my bed and realized that I didn’t have to give up any part of myself to sleep in it.”
During her stay, she received counseling, case management & classes to prepare her for motherhood.
J: “I wasn’t just a number there. I was part of a family. It meant the world knowing someone would be there for me even when I was having a bad day because those days were still going to come! But at Solve, I didn’t have to go through them alone.”
Jennifer gave birth to her baby boy, Amaris, on March 6, 2014.
Today, Amaris is a witty, compassionate 10-year-old with a big personality, and Jennifer is thriving at her job after graduating top in her class! You can find them reading together every night in a beautiful home of their own.
J: “Who I am today is worlds away from who I was that first day I walked into Solve. I believe in myself. I’m self-sustaining. God made something out of nothing and restored everything in my life.”
