Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Celebrated annually from September 15th to October 15th, this time is a celebration of the history and culture of the US Latinx and Hispanic communities and honors the ways in which they have contributed to and influenced American society. Almost 40% of children and families served at MCS are Latinx or Hispanic, and we are grateful that they are part of our community.

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost and the countless individuals forever impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. We remember the bravery of first responders, the strength of survivors, and the resilience of families and communities across our nation.

This week is National Su***de Prevention Week, a time to raise awareness, share resources, and remind kids and families that help is always within reach.

At MCS, our clinical program provides children in counseling and in our shelter with compassionate support when they’re experiencing suicidal thoughts. Our therapists create personalized safety plans, help kids recognize ways to shift their thinking, and ensure they know who to reach out to for help. We check in multiple times a week, carefully assessing their safety and providing immediate intervention if needed.

Every step we take is to let children know: you are not alone, and your life matters.

Our Spanish-speaking Non-Offending Caregiver (NOC) groups provide a safe and supportive space for families navigating the impact of child sexual abuse. These sessions help caregivers build confidence, strengthen their ability to support their children, and create safety plans to prevent future harm.

By breaking down cultural and language barriers, we ensure every family has access to the healing, education, and support they deserve because no family should ever walk this journey alone.

These “Bigs,” including our very own staff member Karla, are providing friendship, guidance, and encouragement to help our foster youth grow, dream, and thrive.
