May is Stroke Awareness Month and your airway may be more connected than you think!
Chronic snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, mouth breathing, and poor airway health can contribute to high blood pressure, inflammation, and reduced oxygen levels which are all risk factors linked to stroke.
As airway-focused dental providers, we look beyond teeth to help identify signs of sleep disordered breathing that may impact overall health.
Warning signs to watch for:
• Loud snoring
• Daytime fatigue
• Morning headaches
• Teeth grinding
• Restless sleep
• Mouth breathing
Early screening and treatment can improve sleep, breathing, and long term wellness.
Healthy airway. Better sleep. Better health.

What Are Tori?
Have you ever noticed a hard bump on the roof of your mouth or along the inside of your lower jaw? These are called tori, harmless bony growths that are actually quite common!

🔹 Usually painless
🔹 Often discovered during routine dental exams
🔹 Can slowly continue growing over time
🔹 Sometimes become large enough to affect daily life

The two most common types are:
• Torus Palatinus – on the roof of the mouth
• Mandibular Tori – along the inside of the lower jaw

While many tori never need treatment, some can become quite large and may require surgical removal if they:

✔️ Interfere with eating or speech
✔️ Make it difficult to keep the area clean
✔️ Cause repeated irritation or ulcers from trauma
✔️ Prevent proper fit of dentures or dental appliances
✔️ Trap food and bacteria

Regular dental visits help monitor any growth and determine if treatment is needed to keep your mouth comfortable and healthy. 🦷

In honor of National root canal appreciation day here’s a Myth vs fact!
Myth: It’s better to pull a tooth than have a root canal.
Fact: According to the American Dental Association, root canal treatment is often the preferred option because it preserves the natural tooth, helping maintain proper chewing function and supporting jawbone integrity. In contrast, tooth extraction can lead to additional complications, including shifting or misalignment of surrounding teeth and possible cosmetic concerns. Whenever possible, keeping your natural teeth is considered the best option, unless the tooth is too severely damaged or infected to be saved and extraction is necessary.
