Happy Fall! October is here and so is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society guidelines for mammogram screening are:
Woman between 40 & 44 should start screening every year.
Woman 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
Woman 55 & older can choose to have a mamogram every other year if in good health and low risk.

Woman under 40 should consult with their provider to detemine when to begin getting mammograms.

If cost is not an issue opt for a 3D mammogram.

Do you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD? SAD is defined as mood changes that begin and end when seasons change. SAD is sometimes called the winter blues. Treatment for SAD includes psychotherapy, antidepressant medication, vitamin D and light therapy.
Brainerd Medical Supply has lights that are specifically made to treat SAD and would be happy to help you. SAD lights should have an intensity of 10,000 lux and be used between 30 minutes and one hour daily.

Take good care of yourself or loved one and find out when it is time to start screening for breast cancer. Please check out the current guidelines for Mammogram Screening. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network is recommending annual screening starting at age 40 if you're at average risk.
