Dawn the Doula embarked on a mission to Karatu, Africa, where she spent 10 days enhancing birth experiences across three clinics.
A historic moment unfolded as we facilitated the first skin-to-skin interaction between a mother and her newborn. This marked a significant change from the standard practice of separating newborns from their mothers, wrapping them in multiple garments before return.
Our contribution included the introduction of visually instructive labor position wall art in Swahili instead of the current English versions.
Moreover, the inception of the 'Amina Fund' enabled us to offer vital assistance, such as food and clothing, alongside emotional support to a young mother in distress, who is featured in the skin to skin photo! This fund will be in place for other mamas in her situation.
We even doula’d the staff! Taking time to appreciate their long days and contributioning with back rubs, snacks and drinks!
If you feel led to contribute in anyway, we’re always taking donations of gently used baby clothes, some medical supplies and sometime soon, being able to accept monetary donations to the ‘Amina Fund’.
Thank you so much for your support and allowing me to live my passion: changing birth for all women! 💕
