✨ Family photos in the meadow ✨
Who says you can’t be stylish and practical? I wore my Blondo Carmine waterproof boots during our professional photo session, and they were lifesavers for walking through tall grass and uneven ground. Comfortable, chic, and no worries about damp grass ruining the day. 🌿👢💜

Sometimes I just need to run through the trees and feel 8 years old again 🌳✨

I love wearing my Vibram FiveFingers—not only do they strengthen my intrinsic foot muscles, but they also naturally shift my gait into a forefoot strike (keeping my body quite literally on its toes—pun intended!) depending on the surface when running.

It’s the closest thing to the barefoot freedom I remember as a kid, sprinting through the acres of forest behind my home in Missouri. 🌲👣💛

Strolling St. Tropez in Louis Vuitton 🌸👣
We dined inside a dream at Arnaud Donckele & Maxime Frédéric at Louis Vuitton—every bite was edible art. Afterwards, we wandered the streets of St Tropez and explored a few galleries… all in my Ecru white Louis Vuitton Silhouette sandals 💫

👠 Yes, they’re heels. Yes, I’m a podiatrist. And yes… they were actually comfortable! why?
➡️ 3” heel with a wide, stable LV flower base = better weight distribution
➡️ Proper prep (extrinsic and intrinsic activation) + post-wear stretching = no harm done
➡️ Want to wear them longer? Add a HAPAD scaphoid or metatarsal pad to offload pressure at the ball of the foot

Of all the luxury brands, I like Louis Vuitton the most when it comes to footwear. Their sneakers are incredibly stable, with solid heel counters and structured soles—much better than many other designer brands that focus more on aesthetics than function.

Even their heels tend to have:
✔️ Wider bases (like the LV monogram block heel pictured)
✔️ Slightly more shock-absorbing soles
✔️ Better construction around the midfoot
… all of which makes a difference in long-term comfort and support.

Luxury can still love your feet—you just need to know what to look for 😉

French Riviera Day 5 morning shoes: The NB 9060—Trendy and Trustworthy? Let’s talk 👟👣
As a foot & ankle surgeon, I’m always skeptical of trendy shoes… but I’ve learned to trust New Balance—especially their athletic line—and the 9060s did not disappoint.

We wore them on a casual morning hike/power walk in St. Tropez, and they were shockingly comfortable from start to finish.
✔️ Cushioned midsole
✔️ Wide, stable base
✔️ Good heel structure
✔️ Roomy toe box

They’ve gone viral lately, and honestly? I get it now.

✨ I was also impressed by how popular New Balance is in Europe! I’ll always have a soft spot for brands with local roots 🇺🇸❤️

If you’re wondering whether the hype is podiatrist-approved… I’m giving this pair a big ✅

These custom pink Converse aren’t just cute—they’re also functional. 👟💖
With a rocker sole and a cushioned lining, they’re a go-to rec for younger patients hesitant about “orthopedic” sneakers.
Because even during rehab, style is still on the table. 💅🦶

As a foot and ankle surgeon, it’s easy to always think “from the ground up” when it comes to biomechanics—but we should never underestimate the power of “top down” influence. 👣🍑 My favorite gym machines is the Glute Kickback. The glutes are the largest muscles in the body and play a huge role in stabilizing the entire leg (and more!)

As someone with mild overpronation, when I intentionally activate my glutes during gait (as we all should be), it externally rotates the leg and reduces excess inward force through the foot. Strong glutes = happier feet. 💪🏼✨ Eccentric and concentric strength of the calves are also extremely important, but I find this easy to do at home. This is also the case for intrinsic foot muscle strengthening.

🏓 Pickleball for a Purpose with Gronk & Edelman! 🏈💥
This week, my husband and I had the privilege of being invited to Pickleball for a Purpose, a charity event supporting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund — with none other than Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman showing off their skills on the court! No surprise, Gronk was very entertaining and Edelman’s athleticism was incredible.

In total, we stood for about 2.5 hours socializing/cheering them on — and our feet felt amazing the whole time!🙌
🔹 He wore his new Cole Haan GrandPrø Topspin sneakers with great support and cushioning (custom orthotics inside)
🔹 I wore my very affordable INC square toe flats with a very stable midsole upgraded with a scaphoid pad — a small tweak with a big impact… otherwise they wouldn’t have been great shoes for this.

👣👣 Foot Health PSA: As a foot and ankle surgeon, I’ve seen a huge rise in injuries from pickleball — especially Achilles tendon ruptures. In fact, 100% of the Achilles ruptures I’ve treated over the past 3 years were ALL from pickleball. 😳 Don’t forget:
➡️ Dynamic warm-ups before playing
➡️ Static calf stretches after — simple steps that can prevent serious injuries! Studies also show importance of eccentric calf strengthening for Achilles tendon health.

And a shoutout to Once Upon a Coconut, one of the event sponsors — their coconut water was so tasty and refreshing. Highly recommend! 🥥✨

Good shoes, good causes, and even better company.

When a Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgeon wears heels to an event… … YOU KNOW THERE’S A PLAN 😎👢
I had a charity gala, , and wanted to wear a dress that was juuust a bit too long… and I was going to be surrounded by very tall people all night! So yes—I went with a heeled boot. But not just any boot.

Here’s how I made it foot-healthy and pain-free:
✔️ Lace-up boots = built-in ankle stability with a rocker sole
✔️ I added arch support for extra comfort. Another option is to add a small felt metatarsal pad
✔️ the following day, I wore my ankle splint for 1 hour to counteract the calf shortening effect of heels and keep my foot + ankle balanced

No ankle sprains. No foot pain. No regrets. Just smart choices and a little podiatrist prep. 💁‍♀️
You can wear fashion and protect your feet—it just takes a little strategy! We had such an amazing night for a great cause with phenomenal people - GO GATORS!

Before you buy those cute kicks, try the Insole Test! 👟✨ Take out the factory insole, stand on it, and check—do your toes/forefoot spill over the edges? If so, the shoe might be too narrow for healthy forefoot splay. Your feet deserve space to move! This will treat/prevent issues like intermetatarsal bursitis, a Morton’s neuroma, and more.

Even Lady Gaga knows: fashion doesn’t have to come at the cost of function

Lady Gaga was rocking sensible Steve Madden boots at Coachella—and I’m here for it. She is know for her unique high heels but after a history of a hip injury, she’s proving that listening to your doctor and choosing supportive footwear isn’t just smart—it’s powerful.

When we wear high heels, it’s not just our feet that feel it. Heels shift our center of gravity forward, putting extra pressure on the front of the hip, which can aggravate hip pain and create instability—especially in those with a history of injury.

Supportive shoes = smart style.
Way to lead by example, Gaga!
