If you’re easily irritated, stay low on patience, and always tired, you may need to regulate.
Have you ever heard of Nervous System Hygiene? Well, a year ago, I didn’t either. It’s the daily practice of helping your body feel safe, at ease, and supported. It could be small or big, but it’s a moment of recalibration when we feel off.
Here are 3 micro self-care practices you can integrate in your day-to-day….starting now:
💫 Containment Boundaries: Over-access is dysregulating. Create one daily “no-access” window where there is no phone, no conversation, no emotional labor—block it off! Even 15 minutes makes a big difference. Constant availability costs you!
💫 Sensory Anchoring: When the nervous system is overwhelmed, talking doesn’t help. Sensation does. Pick one strong sensory input for 60 seconds…ie: cold water on your face, pressing feet firmly into the floor, touching something textured (stone, wood, fabric). This is a great reset!
💫 Task Completion Therapy: While loose ends are kryptonite to an overloaded nervous system, closure is the cure. Choose one small task and complete it fully: finish an email, set the appointment you’ve been putting off. Then pause and notice the relief. Completion signals safety.
Save this, share, and actually try it—get your hygiene up.😊
