Yoga Teta

Yoga Teta I teach at West River Yoga in Brattleboro every weekday morning. I emphasize gentleness as well as a sense of adventure. Find your edge, feel great, have fun!

My training is in Hits the Spot Yoga®, which is based on principles of Kripalu, Anusara, and Iyengar styles of yoga. I encourage you to practice love and respect for yourself. This is your practice, your body, your time. You and I work together to create a great practice for you: I know a lot about yoga, you know yourself. I’ll encourage you to bring with you a spirit of both safety and adventure.

I call this our working zone. As we lean into a stretch, we feel our edge, the typical limits of our muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bone structure. Lean a little further, and our eyes widen, we feel more present and awake — that’s our working zone. Lean a little further, and we’re unstable, uncomfortable, or in pain — don’t go there! Our work is happening at that working edge, where we are more alert and awake, and our bodies are opening, just right, just enough. It’s the regular practice of these small openings that make for great progress. Yoga can help you feel strong, flexible, with more focus and better balance. And it's fun!

I'm teaching two classes at Inner Heat Yoga in Brattleboro. One is Beginner Yoga, Tuesdays at 11am. We'll move slowly and talk about the structure of each pose until you understand what its purpose is, and use lots of props to make sure you're comfortable. The other class is Evening Yoga, Thursdays at 7pm. This is yoga for stretching and relaxing as you finish your day. Book classes through https://www.innerheatyogavt.com.

Nestled in the beautiful Green Mountain State over looking the West River, Inner Heat Yoga provides a tranquil oasis for the new and seasoned yoga student.

What's your favorite yoga pose?
Of course, I love many many many of them. I think Half-Moon is possibly my favorite. Here's a cool graphic of Half-Moon Pose, Ardha Chandrasana.

Yoga helps you be stronger, more flexible, with better balance and sharper focus. And it's fun!

I’m Teta Hilsdon, and yoga has improved my health remarkably since a 2006 back injury left me with chronic pain and the sense that I’d aged a decade. Yoga classes three times a week really helped. I trained to teach too, and now I am stronger than before my injury.

My classes for BEGINNERS are Mondays and Fridays 8:30-9:30am. The next step, GENTLE classes, are Wednesdays 8:30-9:45am and Thursdays 8:30-9:30. Tuesday 8:30-10am is my more vigorous, INTERMEDIATE class.

No matter what your level, I encourage you to get out there and practice. We often need to un-learn ideas we’ve had about yoga being for people who are already flexible. Start where you are, and respect your limits and capabilities as you explore. It’s your body, your time, your practice, your progress. You and I work together to create the right practice for you: I know about yoga, you know yourself.

I’ll encourage you to bring with you a spirit of both safety and adventure. As we lean into a stretch, we feel the limits of our muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bone structure. Lean a little further, and our eyes widen, we feel more present and awake — that’s our edge. Lean a little further, and we’re unstable, uncomfortable, or in pain — don’t go there! Our work is happening at that working edge, where we are more alert and awake, and our bodies are opening, just right, just enough. It’s the regular practice of these small openings that make for large progress.
