Ever wondered why people who are Farsighted can see road signs clearly, but are not be able to read without glasses? Or how Nearsighted folk can see tiny details up close, but cannot see the person walking in the door? Our eyes have complex parts that work together to form a picture, but small changes in any of these parts can effect our vision. These images show how light and images are perceived based on the shape of your eye and how the individual components work together.
The American Optometric Association states that, "Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea (the clear front cover of the eye) is too curved. As a result, the light entering the eye isn't focused correctly, and distant objects look blurred."
As for Hyperopia they note that, "Farsightedness is due to the eye not bending light properly, so it focuses behind the back of the eye or the cornea has too little curvature."
